I'm never buying another ASUS product again.

Thread Starter
I have a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 motherboard and it has the infamous standby crash problem. My research has confirmed that this particular model has this problem. Whether or not it can be remedied with a BIOS update, I'm not sure. What I do know is several BIOS revisions later, the standby issues are still present, and bluetooth is broken. I tried contacting ASUS about the problem, but all they wanted to do is give me a replacement motherboard. If this problem is present because of a design flaw (which it seems like it is), a replacement of the exact model will not fix this issue.

I'm sick to of resuming my computer, only to find that it crashed. It even crashes with stock BIOS settings. And no, I don't want to leave it on 24/7. That's unacceptable. That's like getting a brand new, unused car with AC that doesn't work. If you paid for a new car with AC, the AC should work. If I pay for a new, unused product, I expect it to work properly.

Advice?

RMA the board. My P8Z68-V has zero standby resume issues. Is this something that is specific to the Pro model?

If it's a fundamental flaw with the BIOS/EFI, it may not get fixed with BIOS updates. from what i've read the updates are merely cumulative. You can't revert completely to a previous version or upgrade to a "full" newer version because the updates just modify certain parts of the EFI/BIOS.

Some people lost multipler over clocking with a EFI update only to find out that once it's corrupted like that there's no way to fix it yourself.

No issues here with sleep or standby with mine.

RMA it, imo.

Most (older) SSDs i heard had a lot of problems with Sleep/Hibernate.

Since SSDs boot much quicker, do you really need to put your computer on Sleep?

I like to keep my browser, folder windows, and some applications open. I don't want to have to open everything back up every time I want my computer to be off.

I have the P8Z68-V PRO (non-GEN3) and have no issues resuming from standby. In my experience (other chipsets) most resume from standby issues have been memory related. I would try increasing your dram voltage a notch.

Did a quick google search, I guess that's some what of a common issue with the Pro version.

If you RMA the board, would they send you a new board? If so, sell it as brand new and get something better.

I don't think it's memory related as my computer successfully ran memtest for 12 hours with no problem. I did, however, notice that lowering the VRM frequency to the default 300Khz made my system enter and resume from standby much quicker (when it works), and also that I don't get the standby crashes quite as often.

A computer can resume from sleep mode faster then starting up normally. If it's a question of boot times, resuming is definitely faster IMHO. wink.gif

Edit:
What's there to lose by RMAing the board? You could get one that works fine or even if it doesn't and it really is a design flaw, there are plenty of people who don't use sleep mode and wouldn't mind buying it off you. Then you could get a motherboard that does what you need it to. thumb.gif
