Possible to ressurect a 955BE?

Thread Starter
I would like to update my current pc which contains the following: 955BE, 4870 1GB, AM2+ (770 NB), and 4GB DDR2 1066. I just ordered a Lenovo Y580 laptop, so for my desktop I'd like to reuse as much as possible. I envision keeping at least my cpu, psu, hdd, and case. Would prob order a new ssd.

How much gain could I expect from an upgrade to AM3+, DDR3 1333, and a better video card? Do you think the gain would be worth the investment?

Simply an AM3+ board woulden't make a difference.

The memory and new video card (depending on which you get) will definantly help. If you get one of the new 600 series or 7000 series cards, you can expect alot more proformance smile.gif

OK but in order to get DDR3 I would need the get a new motherboard. I am mostly wondering if it is at all reasonable to keep my 955BE and upgrade around that, or if my money would be better spent on a completely new setup.

Chances are you wouldn't see a difference upgrading your memory, you are honestly probably best off just buying a new video card, overclocking your CPU a bit if it isn't already (May need a better cooler) and consider a SSD for running your OS and newer games.

if i was you i will just upgrade your gpu to a 670 or get a ssd or something like that depending on what you do. if i was you i would just get a gpu since i dont really care how fast my os/ game loads etc when using a ssd

i've got a q8300 with ddr2 and my amd build with am3 with 955BE ddr3 and see not much different

from personal exp I can tell you go from a AM3 to a AM3+ board my 1090T could only hit 3.8Ghz on the AM3 board with the AM3+ I hit 4.3Ghz and that is staying with the same level of quality on the boards I hand a Corshair 3 AM3 board a 8 + 2 phase board I when with a Sabertooth a 8+2 phase board the next improvment I did was to get rid of my 5770 gpu's in crossfire to a GTX 570 the next improvment was going with a ssd it made my rig faster and improved my FPS by 5 to 8 FPS my next upgrade was to go from 1333 ram to 1866 I had to look hard to see that improvment but what it did do was get my NB frequancy higher from 2600Mhz to 3100Mhz
