mine was already unlocked so i didnt need one, how are you flashing it, in dos or windows

I used that guide and I was using RBE and WinFlash, neither method produced results.

Was the switch on the 1 position and what bios was you using I recommend saving your own bios of the card and unlocking the shaders and flashing.

Did it show up the error for flashing read further on and try command prompt

Let me know if the method you used to flash was the same as mentioned here under Unlocking and editing voltage on Caymans using RBE?


If you have a true reference card there should be no impediment to a successful flash. Does your card have a backplate?

Yeah, it does, it is a reference Diamond card. I thought some cards released later did not have the ability to be unlocked?

And, I didn't get an error, it just beeped when I booted up. Then I had to switch the #2 position and re-flash #1.

Did you do anything else to the bios? You know what, can you list out what your steps were? What did you do to the bios file, what did ya edit etc? When you answer, answer in specific. These vague answers are vague. Yes you tried the method? Yes it has a backplate? I dunno, you said yes, but to what?

True reference cards haven't been made since production stopped a back in Feb/Mar 2011. I have not come across a true reference card that could not flash. If you look at the tpu statistics it's like 1 out of hundreds that failed to flash.

This was an issue with DIAMOND towards the end of the HD-6950's that got released ... they had some left over Ver 1 PCB's  and/or returned cards and put them out on the market near the end, but with the newer AMD Laser cut GPU chips ... so yeah you're NOT going to get it unlocked even with attempts at flashing a new BIOS on it ... it's very doubtful you picked up a TRUE Original Reference model card that late in the game, you got one of these late model FAKE Reference cards. For a time DIAMOND even shipped BOTH, either  the FAKE Ref card or the Ver. 2 PCB w/ Dual Fans in the same type of BOX, so you didn't know what you got until you got it home to open it up ... a very shady and deceitful marketing by DIAMOND to save a few bucks on Boxes and new Ver 2 PCB's ... but hey anything for a buck. competitivesmiley.png

There were a couple threads about it back at the time, like 6+ months ago or more ? ... but I don't feel like searching for them ... but I ran down the basic list of what happened above.  Basically DIAMOND went from being one of the better ATI partners to just another also rand trying to do anything to keep afloat ... think back to BFG Tech, before they went belly up ... IF I'm buying an AMD GPU today ... it's either SAPPHIRE, ASUS or MSI, at least in the USA.

 

And yeah I still have my Sapphire TOXIC Non-Reference HD-6950 / unlocked to a 6970 ... and LOVE IT wubsmiley.gif
