Well I just spent the afternoon lapping my CPU and heat sink - only had up to 1000 grit at the closest shop, but spent about 2 hours on the hsf and cpu. Result - almost nilch - maybe -1C off idle and load if that. Lucky I didn't fvck the cpu, because I accidentally ripped it out of the socket joined to the hsf without unlocking lever, resulting in 3 or 4 bent pins. I straightened them all up, but dropped the cpu on on to the glass table a couple of times during the lapping process. I was so ready to just buy another second hand 945, but guess what, after 2 hours of sanding and lapping, it booted up just as normal - what a champ chip.
Results, 3.4Ghz CPU and 2.6Ghz NB (17x200) at 1.36V still does everything I need. I tried 270 FSB to get the ram and CPU roughly the same speed and bump up the NB, but it requires so much more voltage with almost no performance return, that I am thinking of sticking with my 200 base FSB so I can at least keep the sleep function working. Will do more OC testing tomorrow to try and find a nice intermedium between speed, voltage and temp, but so far, the most simple 17x multi seems best and coolest.
I realize I am thread-jacking...but might be of reference...

Actually, as a person who's still fairly new to the world of overclocking, sharing your experiences is helping out a great deal for me. I appreciate the feedback. Believe it or not, I've been reading through quite a number of the other OC threads involving Phenom II's to see how other people overcome or address their challenges. Gives me new ideas to try out and the overall learning experience in and of itself is very beneficial
What RAM are you using with it?
