cannot gett the phenom II x4 965 to boot after install

Hello all,

I am getting frustrated. I cannot get the 965 to boot after install. I have upgraded bios to 5002, and am pretty sure that the CPU is not defective. This is the second 965 I've tried, RMA'd the first one because I thought it was defective. I have followed all of the steps outlined to install this chip. Has anyone else had difficulty getting this to boot.

Welcome to OCN!

First off, give us all the details you can about your system, mobo, ram, psu, graphics etc.

Secondly, tell us what its doing when you try to boot up. Do lights blink on mobo? Do fans spin up? Any beeps? Anything on the monitor?

OK here goes. I have an m2n32 deluxe Mobo, AMD Athlon 64X2 5200+, 6 MB DDR2 Ram, Nvidia geforce 7900 GT GPU, running XP with BIOS version 5002.
I clear CMOS, install the Phenom 965BE, check to see if it boots to windows. Windows loads, restart to get to BIOS. After restart Computer does not boot, fans turn, black screen. Clear CMOS again Boot to BIOS, set configuration setting per- By Hitoriko – Excerpts from BigJohn44’s Guide , save and exit, then restart, nothing, fans turn, black screen. Install previous CPU, no problems whatsoever.
All Nvidia drivers updated, all programs for this CPU install working. What am I missing. I have followed all of the steps to make this CPU work on this MB, other people seem to have had no problems getting this to work. Help please.

Maybe flash back the BIOS to a non Beta version.

CPU Support list doesn't have 965 on there. Only Phenom II x4 940 which is 95W. Board doesn't support 125w cpu's??

Looks like you have the coldboot bug.(some people get this ,others don't)

First try hitting the power reset button when you get to the black screen.
If that fails, try dropping the ram to 667.
Did the usb keyboard work ok in the bios and windows(the first time you got into windows)?

Gyro, reset does not work. USB keyboard will not work, I use alternate OS keyboard. M3TAI, I see that others have gotten this CPU to work on this MB.

The 940 is a 125w part.

If that is in fact your motherboard that is in the link above the 965 will not work properly in it.
