14 months: Broken Ducky

Just 14 months ago I purchased a Ducky 1008 keyboard and loved every minute of typing on it. Today it stopped working, it seems that the contacts for the removable USB cable have gone bad. I tried with a second cable, same problem. I could probably tape down the cable to hold it at the correct angle, but I don't expect that to last long.

So beware: the Ducky was great while it lasted, but it _just_ outlived its warranty period. I'll try to contact the manufacturer to see what they might be willing to do, but I don't expect much.

Definitely, I'll try resoldering it myself first though. However, that is not the issue. I don't expect the average consumer to have a quality soldering station or even know that such a fault even could be repaired. Furthermore, when 99% of people spend an order of magnitude less money on a keyboard and get an order of magnitude more use of of it that I got out of mine, I think that there is an issue to be had with the keyboard in question.

Hyundai has the same warranty period on their vehicles as BMW. The BMW owner has every right to expect his vehicle to outlive a Hyundai, not just barely make it out of the warranty period.

Bad example, I'd say its more like buying a 100 dollar all in one printer and having it last longer than a 1,000 Xerox machine.

Good luck with the solder, and you might have ducky replace it. It's barely out of warranty and it is a premium product.

In re: to BMW vs Hyundai I'd say what you should expect is that when you BMW breaks you will get a loner car and they will fix it up and you won't go without your ride, where-as your Hyundai breaks, you are walking home, you are paying for a tow, you are on your own.

I called the phone number on the Ducky website, but nobody there spoke English, Hebrew, or Russian. I really need to start learning Chinese in Anki!

I therefore wrote to the company, let's see if I will get any response.

Dude if you speak Hebrew, English and Russian than there is no reason you should be calling customer service. We fix and break everyone by ourselves.

Did we call customer support when the floor of the car fell off @ 40mph in Soviet russia? No!!!!!

Uh................. no a poorly made car will break faster than a better quality car........ although there are always exceptions and such because some people really do take care of their babies , some don't. That's why you might be smarter than your neighbor

Today a Ducky representative contacted me and CCed another rep from the RMA department, asking him to take care of the issue. This story may yet have a happy ending! I don't mind that a mass-produced product has the occasional issue, so long as it is handled responsibly by the manufacturer.
