Mindchill vs Krow: All-In-One Liquid Chiller Build Off! - Page 4

Still not bad results considering it was 14.8v.

Quick question, if you already have a controller running one of the SDD blocks, would the chiller still need one as well, or can you run it at full and let the blocks controller keep the block @ dew point? Looking for the "Easy Way" out, to basically be able to replace a radiator in a block setup with a chiller but not sure how feasible that would be...

Basically I guess it comes down to the question of with the chiller running with no controller, will the block still hit dew point at idle with 0% DC on the blocks TEC? At first I though it would work, since an unpowered TEC is an insulator and will let it warm up - but thinking more into it does that mean the opposite - the block will still get cold from the chiller but the CPU will cook!

The chiller would need one as well, I could do a controller without the lcd and humidity sensor for a cheap alternative.

Hi,

Sorry to kind of swoop in on this thread with an only partial relevant post. I want to get into pretty extreme overclocking, and have been looking for solutions for a while. I have considered phase change (too expensive), ln2 (impractical for daily use), and dry ice (same), and if I don't suddenly win the lottery, Peltier/TEC seems to be my only choice. So just one question, is it possible to use these on a daily basis? Like for playing games etc? I would never be able to build one from scratch, but I'm a pretty handy guy and if I follow your footsteps, I could build a replica of one of yours thumb.gif

As for myself, I wouldn't care if this sucked more power than the computer and was louder than a jet, I just want to break some hwbot records tongue.gif may the best cooler win smile.gif

What kind of temps are you looking for.

Tecs are great for running in a rig for 24/7 use.

60C or below would be nice on full load with perhaps 5.5+ ghz overclock on a 3770k, is that possible? When not benching, stock clocks work fine.

TECs do not operate efficiently for those temperatures. For one, because the powerful chillers use water, Alcohol/Glycol freezes around at -51°C with the best possible mixture. Second to achieve temperatures of -60°C you would be better off going phase because it would cost you more to use TECs to achieve those temperatures. even for 24/7.

Each Cascaded step is about -20°C difference from the previous step.

EDIT: Sorry! I completely assumed you meant -60°C below freezing. You'ed have to check with Mindchill about what core temps he was looking at with a Single Direct Die, but a quad, if insulated and allowed to run at full tilt, should be able to get you below 60°C. But it probably won't be stable at 5.5GHz.

5.5GHz on a 3770K would require temperatures around -50C or so to be stable... mine is good for 5.6GHz at -70C for full threaded benching and 5.75GHz for 2D benching.

If you want to get into subzero stuff for the purpose of benching, a pot for dry ice would be you best move. If you want 24/7 with low temperatures and have a big budget, phase is a great path.

If you want temperatures around 0C for a 24/7 system and have ~$600 to drop on all the necessary pelt/watercooling materials, TEC is a good way to go. Note that the $600 includes the WC stuff for two loops. Direct die would be cheaper but is a bit more difficult.

So this is Mindchill's latest thought experiment for a benchmark chiller. It will house 6x Modular Liquid Chillers, and contain 3x Triple Radiators and 1x Double Radiator; aswell as be entirely plug-and-play. Fill up the 2 reservoirs after connecting your PC, and it should be able to cool about 900W to 20°C below hot water temps, and 510W to 30°C.

It should be capable of cooling an entire SLi/Crossfire system and a 200W CPU. Theory is one thing, but practice is another. He plans to build this, aswell and in the process test against my chiller with 2 modules and the proper amount of rads, which I will be following with results once the weather cools down.

That thing is insane!

What kind of PSU's will be used to handle 6 chillers?? I see there are two, but are they recommissioned ATX PSUs or single rails like Meanwells?
