Samsung 830 Freezing Windows

Thread Starter
I just moved to a SSD this weekend. At first I thought that it was working fine, then it started freezing when opening and closing applications. It is a samsung 830 256GB ssd. I also have two hard drives in RAID0 for more storage. The machine is a year old, so I think the RAM is okay, this problem only came up when reinstalling Windows 7.

Specs:

Intel Core i5 2500k
8GB Corsair RAM
3 Hard Drives (above)
EVGA GTX 670 FTW
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 MOBO
750W Cooler Master GX PSU

There weren't a lot of good threads about this happening, so I was wondering how knowledeable people were with this issue. The main freezes have happened when opening or closing applications. I have not run memtests yet because it hasn't seemed necessary. All firmware and BIOS are fully updated.

My guess is that the problem could be with trim because I am using the Marvell controller on the mobo. Will try to boot without of the other two drives (Raid0 used to be main drives).

Just disable the Marvell ports and use the Intel SATA 6Gb/s for the SSD.

See if you have an issue then.

If your RAID 0 is on the Intel 6Gb/s ports already simply move it to the SATA 3Gb/s ports.

Tried booting from the Intel controller. Seemed to work well at first, but then froze again, once after closing Steam and again after finishing a session of a game. Not sure what else to do at this point to diagnose. Might need to throw in the towel.

Ok, keep the drive connected to the Intel ports now.

You have your SATA mode set to RAID correct? Use the latest SATA driver if yours isn't up to date. This is the latest (released a few days ago): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21593/eng/STOR_Win7_8_11.5.0.1207_PV.exe&lang=eng&Dwnldid=21593&OSFullname=%0A

Also, you may want to run that memtest on your RAM.

Also, your system is not overclocked or is it? If so that may be an issue with the stability and you need to adjust your overclock. If you can revert to stock clocks till the issue is fixed.

Currently not overclocking. The Raid0 is current moved into the marvell controller. Should I move them onto the 3gb/s Intel? The marvell is set to RAID, but the Intel is set to AHCI right now. I will run a memtest on it and download the update too.

Hey,
du you have the chance to test the SSD in another sytem? Just to ensure it's the SSD that causes the freezing.

Avoid Marvell ports.

To answer the above question about testing elsewhere, this computer ran completely fine using the RAID0 as the boot drive for a little over a year now. I could test it in my laptop, the only other desktop in the house is an HP all-in-one.

I ran ramtest86+ and it all passed.

I think I will in the future. Is there any specific reason to do so?

So far there has been less freezing, but I have left the system running to see if it would hold up and returned to it later having crashed. I downloaded and ran the new Intel utility, though I'm not exactly sure what it did, looked like bloatware once I installed it. Running games does not seem to cause any sort of weird functionality until quitting, where it may freeze. Will test inside of the laptop to try and get a definitive answer.

If you can reinstall. My friend has crashing issues every few hours and a reinstall fixed it.
