My friend just bought a new VGA (MSI NX7900GTO 512MB DD3), a cpu cooler (Zalman 9500) and a new PSU (OCZ 700W Gamers Edition)... his setup now includes:

CPU - AMD Athlon 4800+ X2
Mobo - Asus A8N-SLI
1GB - Amp-X Ram
VGA - MSI NX7900GTO 512MBDDR3
CPU cooler - Zalman 9500
PSU - OCZ 700W Gamers Edition
300GB Sata3 Hardisk and Thermaltake Shark and 2 DVD-Writers

I assembled the system together, when i switced on the PC, it turned off again immediatly, i tried to switch it on again but nothin. I re-checked all cablings but still no answer. then i took out the 12V 4-pin cpu1 rail from the mobo and it turned on but no boot up, the fans just turned on... when i plyg the 12V 4-pin cpu rail into the mobo, the pc wont even boot.

I appreciate all the help

Cheers

If it did turn on for just a couple seconds and then power off... I'd start w/ the heatsink. Ensure that the zalman is securely locked down to the cpu. I've had heatsinks ride just a hair above the cpu causing it to overheat very very quickly. It then turns off and won't fire back up till the bios is cleared.

Next, i'd remove everything except:
Mobo
CPU
1 stick or RAM
Video card

If you can't even get it to power on, I'd remove the battery in the mobo, cut power to it (either thru a PSU switch or just yank the plug) and then hit the power button a few times to drain any remaining power to the board. Let it sit for about 15 minutes. Plug everythign back in and try again.

Back from trying to solve the issue.

I did what willhoy recommended what no success, after doing so i dismantled some parts of my pc, the CPU and the PSU and connect these parts with the mobo instead, but still with now success.

let me point out -> when i connect the 4-pin 12V connector which is usually found next to the CPU the PC wont switch on, as if its totally dead, but when I dont connect this, the PC does turn on (at least the fans do) but no boot up on the screen whatsoever. Other ideas appreciated. Could be the board got screwed?

Try a different power supply, I've had a few brand new ones that would do something similar. It was weird because if I hooked them up to a different system they would work fine. Shouldn't have been an issue with powering things, they just simply didn't want to work.

Check the pinout locations on the 4 pin in the link, pg 34 just to be sure they are correct. Also, with the 20/24 pin disconnected, if you have a multi meter, you can cold jump start it by jumping the 20/24 pin pwr_on (pin # *) to a common (ground) wire and see if the 4 pin is out putting the correct voltages.

I've tried 3 other PSU, including his old working one and my Hiper Power Type-R, all no no success. I ran out of ideas and concluded that the motherboard is fried...

Reset the CMOS:

Remove the little battery on the motherboard for 2mins and then put it back in.

However before doing so remove the PC tower from any power and hold the on button for 6 secs.

sounds like your motherboard is shorting out, or the ram is incorrect for that motherboard (ddr2 on a ddr motherboard), i've had both of these happen to me and do that
