New DDR-3 Mobo for a Q6600?

Hi all,
I have a Q6600 2.4 in a striker extreme mobo, this is getting old, I think I built it in 2007, but now you have to wiggle the memory cards to get it to boot, ive tried upping the memory voltage, but its getting more iffy by the day......

Ive recently built a Asus MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN i7-2700K for a work ubuntu build, which is a very capable machine, but expensive with the ssds.

I was wondering if there is a mobo where I can reuse the Q6600, as its more than I need for my windows gaming (100% arma2) , but supports DDR3 memory, and the latest graphics cards, I have a GeForce® 8800 GT , but may need to upgrade when arama3 is out.

It would be great if I could get away with reusing the Q6600 in my next build , as if needed i know it can be overclocked, and it seems a shame to bin it.

Thanks for any advice.

found a few on newegg here but none of them can use DDR3 faster than 1066MHz.
If youve got enough money you would be better off selling the q6600 to someone that needs it and upgrading everything.

Sell or giveaway the Q6600, or have it for family. Theres no real use. I had a Q9500? and tried finding a good DDR3 mobo. Couldnt find much that was worth it. Just use the ASUS MAXIMUS build, if you can dual boot Windows ( Not sure on that, havent researched that).

The Q6600 is a little outdated, especially since its 07 stuff, and a 8800 is way outdated, Im suprised youre getting an enjoyable experience with it using modern games...

The ASUS MAXIMUS is at work , this computer is for the home. The Q6600 is old, but its never been maxed out so it seems a waste to buy a new CPU when its still more than fast enough.

If im doing a whole new build I should be looking at home TV integration and all that.

the problem is, if you want to get a new graphics card on that old q6600 with 1066mhz ram, you're going to have serious bottlenecks. if you want to get a new graphics card, you need a more beefy chipset to feed it. and the only way to get a beefier chipset is to ditch the Q6600 unfortunately.

Yea aside from finding something used, it's going to be tricky.
It'd be easier to sell off what you don't need and buy new, since you don't need top of line and want to keep costs down it sounds like a job for AMD to me smile.gif

Get yourself an APU setup maybe, or there are probably lots of cheap AM3/AM3+ components on sale or here in the FS section.

I'm with jimbot on this.
I have an EVGA 680i MB with a Q6600 CPU on it that is getting a little quirky and I need a new MB for it.

I can't justify the expense of a new system since I just don't have the money for it now.

I was looking at an ASUS P5G41 MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131794
with some new DDR3 memory for $96 that would work for a while to let me keep the Q6600 going.
I have played Mass Effect and Crysis with this machine with an 8600 video card that was fine for me. Maybe I can't play some new stuff (which I don't anyway) at 8600000 FPS, but who cares. I mainly use my computer for surfing, word processing and some picture work. It works fine for me and I really don't see the reason why everybody wants to tell folks to build all new all the time?
We don't want the biggest or fastest thing out there, just a machine to get us through the day.
Yes I wish I could spend a couple thousand on a nice new system but just can't.

Still have my q6600 sitting here with an asus p5n-d sli board, Soon to purchase a case, psu and gpu for it, It will play most games at low medium settings at 1600 or 1900 resolution,

Trouble is finding a good new board is almost impossible now. It would be easier to purchase a used board

There's a 775 DDR3 motherboard in the FS section now that would be awesome for a Q6600...
