Core speed drop on Phenom II

Thread Starter
So I've been trying to tweak my OC and i just noticed that i get bus speed and consequently core speed drop in CPU-Z 1.612 x64. Running at 4099 MHz 1.50 v it suddenly dropped to 4065 for a second, and then returning back to 4099. two minutes later it dropped to 4095 for only a second, then returned to 4099. This has never happened before and my current OC has been totally stabile for a long time(No freeze, crash, BSod, or test failure of any kind).
I ran Prime95, no crash, no failure but one more drop to 4095 and after ~15 minutes, where prime changes tests, it dropped twice to 4098 for a few seconds. I've never seen speed variations of more then 0.5 MHz before on this chip. The only recent changes is memory timings from 9-9-9-27-36-1t to 9-9-9-24-33-1t and the newest version of CPU-Z. Also been moving around different settings to get ~4100 but nothing that hasn't been tested stabile. Is my CPU dying? Should I stop OC'ing?

Pls help

Thanks

Edit: Just browsing around I saw several drops between 5-35 MHz. Also, it has been a hot day here, and it's still 25 C or so, maybe the VRM are overheating?

hi guys. i got the same problem. when i ran prime95 with my amd athlon II x3 450 unlocked to phenom II x4 B50 @ 3.6ghz @ 1.5v. There are times that my core/voltages drops from 3.6ghz to 960ghz and 1.5v to 1.2v. How can this be normal? And why is it typically normal? please explain.

Although the OP is probably experiencing VRM throttling, you definitely are. Your motherboard is not ratified for 125w tdp quad core processors, let alone unlocked.

OP stands for original poster, as in SoulFiend.

xd is saying that your motherboard is not compatible with your cpu when unlocked, as unlocking it makes the tdp become 125w, which your motherboard does not support properly (asus states up to 95w tdp). That is the reason why your voltage is dropping, to prevent damage to the motherboard.
