BlackWidow or something else?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of buying a new keyboard. I never had a gaming keyboard, only normal membrane ones or whatever they're called (currently I'm using the Logitech Media Keyboard 600). I'd like to buy a mechanical keyboard with a clicky sound like the Razr BlackWidow.

What's the difference between the Razr BlackWidow ULTIMATE and Razr BlackWidow? The Ultimate costs around £100 and normal BlackWidow is around £60... is there any major difference?

Any other suggestions of a clicky mechanical keyboard, by the way it doesn't have to be extremely loud, just so I can hear the lovely clicking sound biggrin.gif ... Also I don't want to spend too much on it. I thought of a limit of £50.

With the money, you can go buy a Ducky or a CM Quickfire rather than the Blackwidow. I have one and I don't like it. I love my Filco and my Ducky. Too much flash on the Blackwidow. I like to keep it simple, clean, and matte.

I'm using a normal BlackWidow,it has that nice clicky sound, and it's not too loud.I'm very happy with it personally, works great for both gaming and typing,so I would recommend it to you. After trying out a mechanical keyboard,I'm not going back to regular membrane ones, that's for sure...
However, for best results,it would be great if you could try the keyboard out in the store, see if you like the feel...

As for differences between BlackWidows, here you go:

I personally don't think Ultimate is worth the extra premium over the "standard" edition,so I wouldn't go for it...
But if you really like or need those extra features, your choice...

Only thing I find slightly flawed on my Blackwidow is the gloss plastic design,it can get dirty, collects stuff like fingerprints very easy, but cleaning is not a big problem...

No way I'm going to spend so much money on a keyboard tongue.gif as I said my limit is at around £50

The ultimate is not worth it and you can easily find a Blackwidow for $50 on sale which seems to come up pretty often. I bought mine for $45 and I don't regret it, the ultimate is just meh.

The regular BlackWidow is £65 on Amazon.co.uk, , that's the closest I could get to your budget searching on the UK sites that I know of. You could save some money for sure if you buy used, check around on Deskthority if you're willing to go used.

Otherwise I say just grab the basic BlackWidow for £65. Not many people around here like it, but that doesn't mean there's something wrong with it. Most of us are just pretty picky about our keyboards, and you can't be too picky when you're on a budget right? I have a friend who bought one, and he loves it. If that's all you can afford, go for it and enjoy the clickyness thumb.gif
