Yeah, it came via slave labour of the Irish and Chinese (First Transcontinental Railroad) and African Americans, with demand from Britain and later on from the North (the North was the processing centre of cotton, while the South was the farming). Later on, it came via the USA not being blown up to pieces during WWII (and the gearing for war + that US industry supplied a good lot of Soviet gear pre 1943) and the establishment of the US dollar as the 'world currency' via Bretton Woods, + the usual exploitation of other countries and politics for US businesses (e.g. Banana republic intervention in Central America) that continues to this day.
