Should I buy a 120hz monitor?

Thread Starter
Is it worth spending $350-$500 to buy a 120hz monitor? I heard that it improves the visuals if you can run the game at 100+ fps. I have a gtx 680 and an i7 2600k and plan to oc it to 4.5ghz. Will a 120hz display have a noticable improvement for games such as bf3 or skyrim? And on a side note, how common is a 120hz monitor among gamers? Just curious and thanks!

Yeah for sure, anyone who says there's no difference, or "The human eye can only see 37.421 frames per second" is full of excrement.

Yes for, no ghosting at 60 hz both in games and videos biggrin.gif I saw some 120hz 3d monitors 60hz performance and ghosting is very reduced, and I'm very sensitive to ghosting.

Sounds vaguely familiar to my rig.

120hz is a great improvement. I didn't want a 1080p 60hz monitor again. Nowadays, if you're going to invest in a new monitor, go higher than 1080p or 120hz.

I also noticed a huge reduction in the amount of eye-strain i get once i switched to a 120hz monitor. That alone is worth the price-tag to me.

Short answer: IPS isn't "fast" enough for 120Hz (although that sounds like a load of BS)
Long answer: Manufacturers can't be arsed to do it because they think it's too much of a niche market and they're too bloody miser.

Considering the masses don't give two craps about IPS, I'd say we won't be seeing it any time soon. Unless they come up with something like the love child of IPS and TN.
