Monitor not showing anything

So I've built my PC and it's all working fine apart from the slight problem that nothing shows up on the screen, and I mean nothing it just stays blank and goes into standby mode :/ Everything else on the PC runs fine except that the top case fan doesn't run either :/ Could the two be connected? I might have got the pins for the two mixed up but I've got no idea, so yeah I've no idea what to do frown.gif Thanks for any help in advance smile.gif

Intel i5 3570K
4Gb DDR3 RAM

Really hard to say without seeing what you have built...

If nothing is displaying at all, first thing to check is the GPU which you have not listed so im assuming you are using the on board DVI, VGA or HDMI ports?

If that's the case then I would not think that would be the problem, if you actually have a graphics card, check the power cables, does the fan on it spin up?

Re check all of the front panel cables are going to the correct locations, check the motherboard 24pin and cpu 4/8pin are in properly.

I would expect SOMETHING onscreen even in the CPU, RAM or HDD were bad/not in properly...

Where does the top case fan go? onto the motherboard to straight to the PSU?

Also on your monitor is the source selected correctly? Press the auto select button to get it to swap between digital and analogue inputs...

Also do you want to fill out your full specs in your forum signature?

Go to my Rig builder top right and then click Create Rig on the right.

Then to add it to your signature go to my profile
Scroll down to "Your Forum Signature"
Edit signature text
and then underneath the empty text input area click "Show stuff in your signature" and choose your rig

The fans if connected on the motherboard is keyed to fit only one way. Sounds like you missed some pins and perhaps shorting out and the board is going into standby/safety. I would remove the fans and clear the cmos and do the fans correctly. Then power it back on. Thanks

Yeah I'm just using the on board graphics at the moment I'm yet to get the graphics card I want, It's the mini VGA port as thats the only connector the i5 supports without a GPU...

Yeah I've checked everything and made sure that they're all going to the right spot, the top fan just leads into a bundled cable with the other fans which I've plugged into the PSU so not sure why that's not running =/

Well the monitor is pretty old, it's from my first family computer which my parents got quite a few years ago so It might just be to outdated to run but I doubt that'll be it =/ Also there's only one channel for it there's no way of changing it

Okay so I've taken everyones advice unplugged everything and plugged it all back in and it works biggrin.gif The top fan is still not spinning but the screen now works and as it won't be doing anything to demanding for awhile that's nothing to worry about for the moment smile.gif
