I don't really have a set price range, but nothing absurd. I'm looking for something with a good price for the quality.
What I want to do is end up with a system that allows me to hook the headphones and a mic up to a Dolby sound processor like the Turtle Beach DSS or Astro Mixamp, although I've been wondering lately if I could have this type of setup using a sound card. My 'dream' setup in this instance would be some great high quality headphones, Dolby processing to apply virtual surround sound (5.1/7.1) and a way to playback music/sound clips through the microphone with only minor loss in quality. (Compared to say playing music through the speakers into a microphone; crap quality)
From what I gather, the terrible quality of streaming music/clips through a microphone is due to the low frequency range of microphones in general.
Let me start out by first letting people know that the Dolby processing for virtual surround is a must. Please nobody suggest "just get a good pair of stereo headphones and you'll be fine" because I know that isn't the case, at least on the 360. I've also got JVC HA-RX900s and it's just plain stereo; completely unable to pinpoint sound cues aside from left to right. (I have TB X11s for my 360 currently)
Again, I don't want to spend an absolutely absurd amount, but I do want to know what I would need to accomplish this setup. I was thinking having a sound card with optical in and out would work best, then I could go from the 360 optical to the sound card and then: 1. To the headphones/mic from the sound card or 2. From the optical out to the Dolby sound processor, to the headphones/mic.
Thanks!
