How much of a big increase would I see

Thread Starter
I have a 1090T 3.2GHz now I'm kind of jelly that my brother has higher FPS then me because I recently built him a 3570K Build (might make a build log for that soon), anyways, he gets about 900fps on CS:S (no big deal but I mean, if he gets that much in CS:S compared to me, then it must be a big jump on BF3 also and I know fps over 100 doesn't matter because your eyes don't record it or w/e but it's just a personal thing) Now I know that the FX8120 won't compete with the 3570K but would I see a big increase in performance in upgrading to the FX8150? Also, Velociraptors or SSD? Lol.

Thanks in advance!

For gaming stick with the 1090T. You will be sorely disappointed in the FX8120's performance. You should try and overclock the 1090T to 3.6GHz or more.

Any Intel 2nd or 3rd gen CPU will beat AMD, but it doesn't make it a bad processor.

SSD, hands down. Access time is 100x that of the Raptors.

This. Unless hes using a 560 1GB GPU, your comparison is irrelevant.

I would be interested in benchmarks run on both rigs like Heaven 3.0 using the exact same settings, the Crysis benchmark, and things of that nature. 900FPS in some low GPU intense game is irrelevant in my eyes, as well as different scenes in different games yield different results. All of the variables in both tests need to be identical.

Screen resolution also is a big factor. If you are running 1920x1080 and him 1680x1050, results are also irrelevant.

You'd need a better board, like 990fx board, or, a 2500k and 1155 board.

Last time I looked at gaming benchmarks, the 1100T did as well and occasionally better than the FX-8150. It seems pointless to upgrade to a bulldozer.

Yea, I'd say pickup a nice cooler and OC the snot out of that 1090t, but there's no VRM cooling on that board (which isn't good for high OCs).
You could probably get away with little, but I wouldn't push it too far.

Good news is that there are usually plenty of AM3 boards in the FS section, you could pick a real nice one up for a good price smile.gif
