possibly time for a GPU upgrade....

Okay well I had a watercooling incident and it looks as if my card is dead (god rest you soul GTX580 you served me well) so I was wondering what the best option is right now, should I get a cheepie and get the 780 when it comes out (planned a upgrade then from the 580) or should I be going the 670/680 route so many have gone...

I don't what you mean by a cheap card. please elaborate. the GTX 780 is due for late 2012 (Dec) or an early 2013 launch, maybe at CES 2013.

for 40-50, you can get a gtx 260 on ebay for cheap. Should hold you out until then.

I had a tube come off a barb... not good

I use the card for gaming, folding, and most importantly 3d modeling (reason I haven't gotten a 680 right here my 3d modeling program is all DP)

For USD 40 - 50 you could get a used GTS 450 or used HD 5770 / 6770. If you can make it till Jan it might be worth the wait.

GTX 780 specs - 2880 (or 2688 for yield reasons), 5 GPC, 15 SMX, 48 ROP, 384 bit memory bus, 3GB GDDR5. Price must be USD 550 - 600. Expected perf is GTX 580 SLI. So it depends on whether you can hold out till early Jan. thumb.gif
