Best wireless adapter?

Thread Starter
I have to get a wireless adapter for my PC instead of using an internet cord. Can anyone suggest some good ones for me? I'd like to keep it under $70 and want the best speeds possible. I'd prefer to get it locally (staples, best buy, office depot)but I can order it online if needed. Thanks in advance!

Depending on the router you have you're going to want one thats runs the same speeds presumably so you can get the most out of your conection. If you have an N150 router there is no need to get an N300 adapter, I've sold a bunch (Officemax) and find that even the cheapies work quite well, I myself have just an old one that i've had around for ~5 years, Linksys G Adapter for our WRTG54 thats also quite old. I would suggest to buy an N150 adapter if you have an 150 router, 300 adapter for 300 router etc, any major brand will probably do (Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D-Link) etc.

I think we have a net gear n300. I'll check to see if I can find an adapter for it! Thanks,I'll rep you when I get on a PC.

Well it also depends on the model, some wifi cards from any of those companies are crap while some are awesome, you have to do some review skimming in order to find the right one.

I did a quick search and came up with this one as being cheap and half decent:
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=875&Itemid=70&limit=1&limitstart=4

But personally I use a WRT54G with DD-WRT as a bridge and it works beautifully, there is no extra latency and it never cuts out. Its almost as good as wire, I can even have three or four devices connected to it and it will still work without issue. If you can get your hands on one of these, I really recommend it.

Completely true, but I figured I'd give him a general outline as I didn't know his other hardware.

I have the same adapter as the one you linked, and all I will say is Netgear's quality isn't the best. Mine may just be a dud, but often times it'll lose all connectivity and it won't work again unless I remove it and put it back in a few times.

If you want a good deal on a USB wireless adapter, you should keep a watch on 1saleaday and Dailysteals. They usually have a deal on a refurbished Linksys or Netgear Wireless N adapter. The Linksys one would be a dual-band N300 or N600 wireless adapter for ~$15.

I think I'll buy the net gear and return it if it drops connection or I have any problems with it

Best NICs?

Intel 5xxx
Intel 6xxx
Killer Wireless-N 110x

These are mini-PCIe NICs but you can get PCIe adapters.
Once again...
