New job - New PC

Thread Starter
Ok so I have recently been informed that I have a new full time job. So this can only mean one thing, new computer smile.gif. Now don't get over excited as its going to take me a while to save up for this beast.

What I need is something that will see me though my final year of university in 12 months time. It will be doing a lot of rendering, image manipulation, video editing and of course gaming. Oh you can throw folding into that mix as well. Now at this moment I haven't got a rock solid budget but I would like it to come in under £5000.

Here is a link to my saved basket at Scan, as you can see I'm going for a triple GPU, six core i7 dual water setup. My question is could I save some money here or there so I can spend it on better components/case?

I have gone with the fractal design case mainly because I already own the Arc midi and love it, but are there better cases out there, which won't break the bank?

Also this machine is going to be in my bedroom so I would like to make it as silent as possible.

That basket doesn't look to be public mate, but 5k are you mad?

And if you want a silent triple sli build then you need a massive case and I mean massive. Talking XSPC or caselabs here.

5000 euro is insane. If you are not gaming on tri monitors, I would go with a 7970 and a 3930K + x79 motherboard. I highly advise you to think about this ALOT before spending all that money, and wishing you had about 2500-3000 back when you dont utilize all the hardware.

well, lets see how crazy this troll is biggrin.gif

I would recommend 3 x phobya 1080's so you can passively cool your rig. there should be enough surface area on 3 x 1080's for passive cooling smile.gif (more surface area then most car radiators biggrin.gif )

I won't be gaming on triple monitors but I need the overhead for high work load. Also played about with the basket and its coming in at a lot less. I have edited the link in my original post which now shows the new basket. Though this doesn't include the water loops.

I was planning on modding the fractal case and having a 420mm in the roof, and a 280mm in the front. Kind of like this

£5000 quid (approx 6400 euro - guys, it's not euro - thank god) Seems very steep to me.

I like the challenge of making a high end rig as affordable as possible. I wouldn't throw this much money on a PC system and not regret it afterwards.

£5000 on a PC? Man what a waste of money hahah.

You could get a top end rig for much much less that that. And you won't regret it in the long run either.

I have spent more than 6000 on mine so far. Who cares? Do all treads have to be about money?

If you got 500, get a cool, good build, that's a lot of fun to build for that money.thumb.gif

PCs advance far too quickly to justify spending that much money on one. It'd depreciate faster than driving a brand new car out of the showroom and crashing it into the building opposite the road.

Tech might drop in price quickly but I don't upgrade often. So 5000 quid will last me at least 6 years.

Ok so here is the latest basket update. I want to take this thing full under water, only problem is I don't quite know which chipset block I would need to get for my Asrock X79 Extreme9? Any ideas?
