Suggestions needed on which way to go

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am new here so please excuse any newb questions or mistakes on my part. I have an intel E8500 processor and an Asus mobo (nothing highend just the run of the mill 100$ mobo) with 4 gb ram (1 gb sticks) and a GTX 570 (1.25 gb) with an intel 256 gb SSD. I recently installed fifa 2012 and noticed that my game play was not smooth and the frames were low. I was thinking of upgrading the whole system and here is what I have in mind.
CPU: Intel I7 3770K
mobo: Asus P8Z77 or P8Z68
Ram: Corsair Vengence 16 gb

I am confused about the Graphics card. should I buy another 570 and run them both in SLI or sell the 570 and get a 670 or 680. Please note that I have a samsung P2370 that maxes out at 1920 x 1080 resolution and I plan to keep a single monitor all the way in the future as well. I play crysis 2, Fifa 2012, call of duty and intend to play crysis 3 when it launches. Advice on any and all aspects of the build would be appreciated.

Well, instead of an 3770k, why not get a 3570k? A 3770k isn't needed for gaming, and if you buy a 3570k, you'll save money. As for the motherboard, go ahead and get the P8Z77 board. There is not hurt in getting the new chipset. The 16gb RAM is good, but not needed. 8gb is plenty for gaming. If you feel like 16gb RAM is what you need, then go for it. It won't hurt.

Edit: If you feel like you need the i7 3770k instead of the i5 3570k, do that. Once again, there is no hurt besides the fact that you spend more money. You won't notice a difference when gaming, but will notice a bit when you multi-task or do any encoding, etc. It all depends on what you do.

The graphics card is up to you. You can buy another 570 and run them in SLI. but you might as well sell the 570 and get a GTX 680. I recommend that because you're getting an Ivy Bridge CPU and a PCI-E 3.0 motherboard. You might as well get the best of the best for the graphics card. MIght I also suggest running two GTX 670s? You can sell the 570 and get two 670s? Either way, you're pretty golden!

Are you sure you are not getting satisfactory performance in FIFA 12? I'm playing it maxed out with just a 6790 and I get a constant 60 FPS with vSync on and 148 FPS max with vSync off lol.

Anyways, about the upgrade, get a 3570K with a decent Z77 board. I highly recommend that you go for a single card configuration. Sell your 570 and get a non-reference 670/680, whichever suits your budget and needs.

Later if you think that you need more performance you can just get another 670/680 and go for SLI.

Personally, I would just go for the CPU upgrade and keep the 570 for now. You should see noticeable performance gains with just that. Later when the mighty GK110 (GTX 780) comes out, you can get one of those and demolish any and every game.

Remember to get a good PSU and coolers so that you can opt for SLI later on and overclock your system respectively.

Good luck! smile.gif
