First Build, Need Help!

Thread Starter
Building a new gaming pc , looking to order the parts . I have been doing research and have put together a build . What I'd like to know is if all the components work well together, if there is any 'overkill' with them, and any suggestions for better brand names at equivalent prices etc...

Thanks for your assistance/advice!

First off welcome to OCN!

Second, I can't click on any links right now, so I can't view your motherboard option, but do you have a specific need for the VelociRaptor? You are already getting an SSD as a boot drive. You can save a good amount of money per GB with something like a WD Black.

Also you seem to be missing RAM. If you're in the USA, get the samsung sticks!

if the raptor is for storage and your SSD for OS: then ditch the raptor and save your money. get a regular 7200rpm 1TB for a fraction of the price. The SSD is where you will see the best performance. plus it will not be as loud lol

I vote for the Corsair H100 as a cooler

You forgot power supply. I would look at something from corsair. Is this computer just for gaming? I would go with a 3570k instead of a 3770k unless you just want it or you are doing something that needs it.

Good case. Ive used it in a build for someone else before. Personally i do not like MSI motherboards. I have the maximus iv gene z and have used the maximus v gene in a build for somebody else and both boards were fantastic and had no issues, but are you ever wanting to do SLI (2 or more graphics cards)? If so then i would get a full ATX board and not a M-ATX.

I would not get a velociRapter. I would just get a nice big 2tb western digital caviar green for storage and then use an ssd for a boot drive. I would get the 128gb crucial m4. I have the 64gb and its a great drive. I plan to upgrade to a 256gb m4 in the future.

As for the cooler, both of those are awesome. I have the H100, but it had the infamous grinding noise and i did fix it with a fan controller mod (ill let you read up on that if you want). The NH D14 is awesome. Its just very large so it depends if you want something that big or not.

What about graphics card? Do you have anything in mind for that? I would get a gtx 670.

Oh and Ram. Ya the samsung sticks are awesome from what i hear!

Hope i could help!
