I played with speakers at fairly loud volume. Sure, the music is intense, but there's no pay-off. The slenderman appears and... that's it. It doesn't scare me.

???

Turning around and seeing nothing there, then turning back around to the slender man 5 ft away along with a simultaneous startling loud horror sound is something that should startle you by nature. If it doesn't then I am not sure how you are alive because this is also a critical response required in crucial situations that need a instantaneous response to survive.

Either that or you feel it necessarily to act like a hardass for the internet.

If you want to differentiate startled from scary, then so be it. Same thing in my book though.

OK to all the people playing the game, i would believe you if you actually play the game whilst recording your reaction in a video. then i would believe you that the game is not scary.
If you think it's not scary, you need to play it in a dark room, with only your screen for lighting, with the sound up pretty loud. Then it's really scary thumb.gif

We got a mate to do it a few days ago, his reaction made me jump just as much as the game tongue.gif

As a Marble Hornets nut, I am very excited.

Fun fact, the first time I found Marble Hornets, I watched all the episodes in one sitting at night, alone, in the dark. The next morning, I found my car battery was dead, and I had not left the lights on. The next morning, my Mom's car battery was dead, again without leaving the lights on. We know what happens to electronics when the Slenderman is around...

I think another problem was that it wasn't that different from other horror games (The, 'Don't blink, and don't look away!') The first horror game I played with that mechanic was Which; it was scary dealing with it at first but I slowly just wanted to troll the AI. Ever since then any game around the same enemy-mechanic makes me do the same.

Believe me, I'm not trying to act tough. I frighten pretty easily. I just didn't find this particular game scary, or really even startling. Maybe because I knew what to expect? It also takes a lot to get me "immersed" into a game. With the glitchy graphics, the low poly textures, and the bad character model, I found it difficult to get into it. And you have to admit, with the extremely simple gameplay and predictable scares there's nothing that really makes Slender special.
(BTW, I did play with the lights off and pretty decent speakers.)

Do want, if it's actually scary this time around.

Have you played similar games? Like I said the thrill and horror was dimmed greatly because it wasn't too different from most horror games (especially indie horror games; which seemed to all take on the same scare-tactic.)

Not really. I played the first 10 minutes of Amnesia, but never really got to a scary part. As I've said before, I've never really been into horror games.

Perhaps the issue I have is that the game simply isn't long enough to get immersed into, to feel like a part of it, before something jumps out at you. I have a feeling that Amnesia would freak me out if I played it, just because the game takes some time to introduce you to the world and make you feel at home in it. It gets you all comfortable, then slowly builds up fear, and then the monsters come out. Slender from the moment you turn it on shouts "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE SCARED. BE SCARED. RIGHT NOW. HEAR THE MUSIC? YEAH, THAT'S SCARY MUSIC. LOOK! IT'S SLENDERMAN!!!!! AREN'T YOU SCARED?"
