GTX 550ti SLI Power Supply Requirements

OK I recently RMA's my 9800gt as one of them artifact. They sent me back two GTX 550, i was wondering what the PS +12 should be for these cards when used in SLI. I know my current unit only has a 20A rating and that is requirement for just one card. When I get to higher overclocks on my CPU, my graphics cards crash my drivers after about 5min of gaming. I have to downclock my CPU to make it work.

if this is the power supply you're using: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX950-D-B 950W , then you might have fault somewhere (possibly the psu). 950w is way more than enough for your rig specs. I can run that psu on my sig rig. Time to investigate a bit more mate, good luck thumb.gif

edit: Check your manual for multi rail info (if applicable). I'll check on it in a moment too smile.gif

All the cables are fixed, so as long as you're using the right cables (not using adapters, ie moelx to pcie) then you're ok. Tbh, any power supply issue would cause things to shutoff. The driver crashing could be something with your components. What clocks are you running on your 940?

As TurboMach1 pointed out as well, this psu is plenty enough for your rig.

Try going back to stock and make sure you're are running the latest wqhl drivers or roll back to the previous wqhl.

Your current PSU has enough power for that. My old corsair CX500 was able to run OC'd SLI 450's without a hiccup.

As long as you have enough connectors you will be fine, but that'd would be easy. You only need 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors.
