Monitors questions!

Hey everyone, so I have a few questions as I want to buy a monitor, atm I'm using a laptop, 1080p 60Hz AG monitor, not IPS or anything. But since I'm getting a new PC I'd like a nice monitor to accompany it.

I'm not so sure about 120Hz since I mainly play WoW, D3, and those sorts of games, some Shooters, but not to the extent of the other type, so I;m guessing IPS will be a greater benefit than 120. Keep in mind I never tried either in person.

The second thing is the size resolution ratio, best fit would be 1080p IPS 23 or a 1200p 24, I want a 1440p 27, but those are expensive, but if they are really worth it, please do not hold back.

From the mentioned about, you can see that my budget would be $400 max, unless the 1440p's are really worth it, then I might be able to go for some of those.

I was also wondering if it's better to get like a 23 1080p or a 27 1080p (since those are fairly cheap, would the size/resolution ratio be annoying?).

Also this is mainly for gaming, so a good input lag, response time etc... are a must. Will be of course used for everyday tasks as well as some photo editing (not much of a big deal) and watching movies and stuff.

I was looking at Dell's 2311HM, since it has a very very low input lag, but the AG seems a bit over the edge, the 24 version has worse Input lag so I didn't check much about it. But I'd really love something more "exciting"(?) than that Dell, since it's main feature is the low input lag, the IPS is not hard to find, and the Coating is quite aggressive from what I hear.

Hi Manu9!
Very welcome to OCN!

27" 1920x1080 is nice. 2560x1440 is really nice.

I would suggest you to buy a korean monitor whivh are available for 300$. There is really nothing that compete with them for most bang for the buck.

Thanks for the reply.

I was actually on the verge of ordering one of those, the Catleap q270, but frankly, I'd rather have something safer, a US based warranty, from a known company.

Try the one from Microcenter then.

An american brand is also on its way to the market.

If you can wait Dell U2713 is rumoured to cost 400$.

Just checked the one from Microcenter, looks alright, just worried about the input lag.

I saw the thread for the American one, I'm waiting for it to be released and gets reviewed so I can decide.

Can't find Info on the U2713, except that it's e-IPS, How's the quality of e-IPS? is it a nice upgrade over the normal displays or should I just see how the American/Microcenter ones go?

I have to buy the Monitor by August 10 or so btw. So I'm not very rushed.

e-IPS < S-IPS < H-IPS.

The difference is negligible compared to the jump from any TN to any IPS, though.

And, are you sure you won't go with the Korean ones? Most of them can be covered by SquareTrade for 3 years for around $50-55.

Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, I just don't feel 100% comfortable with it tbh, I know it will *probably* be fine in the utter most cases, I'm the kind of person that doesn't mind paying a bit more for say the American based version. So I will either get the Microcenter one, or the upcoming Nixeus one. Just need to see if it will be released prior to August 10, if so, I'll take the one with the lower input lag then.

Would a 23 1080p be better than a 27 1080p in clarity terms? as in, which would you recommend?
