Multiple Upgrade Advice? GPU, SSD and PSU.

Thread Starter
I've got a 1080p monitor coming for free from a family member in the near future (well, it's a 27" HDTV but the quality looks good enough for me). So I've been considering whether I'm going to need an upgrade in GPU.

Here's my rig: http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/3912733

I've been wondering about the GPU and eyeing up a GTX670 to replace my GTX560Ti.

Then I figured I might need a new PSU just to give myself headroom and some more stability for overclocking and such (currently a CM GX550W).

I also want to take the plunge and get an SSD, either 60-80GB or 128GB. Probably more towards 128GB since my Win7 OS is 30GB, and my Linux OS is quite similar, and I'd like some headroom...

So:
  • Will I need a new GPU for a 1080p monitor?
  • ^ Should I get a new PSU if that's the case?
  • Which SSD's are the best value?

1. Depends what games you want to play (the 670 is awesome tho. Max out everything).
2. The 670 uses less power than a 560ti (checked anandtech's bench)
3. Crucial M4 and samsung 830 usually have good deals. I've also heard good things about the ocz vertex 4 drives, tho ocz has had issues in the past.

You should be fine with that GPU and PSU. If you want to upgrade, I suggest waiting for the GTX 660. Your power supple is fine to run a next gen card because they are ridiculously efficient.
To be honest, just grab any Crucial, Samsung, or intel SSD on sale.

I play BF3, Skyrim (with the large texture mods. Does kind of make my system cry a little) and a few others that are nearly pushing my GTX560ti while on 1680x1050. Stuff liek this:

Make me realise my GTX560Ti is going to be sucking it hard frown.gif

Money I can save on a PSU is good, then. I hadn't seen those numbers but they seem to be about the same or less than GTX560, which is great!

So far I have in my basket:

https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards+-+GPUs/Graphics+Cards+-+NVIDIA/GeForce+GTX+670/MSI+Twin+FrozR+III+Power+Edition+GeForce+GTX+670+OC+2048MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=50381

(because I wanted the custom cooler so as it dissipates as much heat as possible. I want a DirectCUII card but they're £379.99.. so no way.)

https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/3TB+Seagate+Barracuda+ST3000DM001+3.5%22+SATA+III+Hard+Drive+?productId=48502

(Because I'm desperately in need of more space)

£441.32 inc Del

Which SSD? I will want to stay clear of OCZ. Bad experiences in the past so I don't want to give them my money. I've heard good things about the Crucial M4?

A 7970 can be had Cheap and with a bunch of free games,

unless you fold, there's no reason to go Nvidia over a cheaper AMD, sure you're going to lose a few frams, but it's still a huge imporvement
I still run a 560ti (680 is in the mail) and the only reason i DIDN'T get this was for F@H

Also, Get a Samsung SSD or Crucial M4, both are rock solid preformers

I play HEAVILY modded skyrim on 1080p, including ENB with DOF, and the 670 just chugs away, even with 4x MSAA + 4x TSAA and 16x AF.

The recommendations above are also good.

I prefer NVidia for Physx and I'll be selling off my GTX560Ti afterwards. Also, the cheapest 7970 is £334 on Aria (my preferred shop since I'll get all my kit in one day =D) and is about the same performance. It's also much bigger and more power hungry! The GTX670 Twin Frozr I've priced up is £322.

Cheers!
