Just what the hell is going on here? (7970 overclocking)

The card I have is an Asus DCII 7970 (non-top)
I've also tried asus own gpu tweak but I get the same results, the utility shows I've set the clock speeds to x but gpu-z still detects my gpu running at stock frequencies.

(Yes, I am trying to underclock my card)

open MSI Kombustor and watch the numbers
my 5770 stays underclocked till i open that or a game then the numbers spike to 950mhz

Clearly you didn't understand my question.

Not sure if it is because you are running the 12.7 beta driver, but I had some strange issues with Afterburner when I was on the 12.7 beta. I went back to 12.6 and everything is now working correctly.

*edit
I also went back to Afterburner 2.2.2, since 2.2.3 wasn't working correctly with my 7970

I have noticed my cards are maintaining 3D clock's also even with no oc they are running full speed with 12.6/7 beta
I think its a driver issue...
Hopefully they get it fixed 12.8

i think its just gpu-z doesnt support 12.7 yet.

Mine shows stock as well, where is used to show overclock settings on top, and current idle speeds on bottom.

but using aida64 to monitor (displayed on my g-19), its idling correctly, and clocks up to the correct OC ive placed on it.

What skin are you using for MSI AB? I know its unrelated to ur Q but I just thought it was cool, maybe a link? thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

Same thing happens with my 7850 at some point. What you should do is, run a Unigine Heaven (or any other benchmark) at stock speed, write down results. Now do another run with the underclock and if results are lower then you successively underclocked your card. thumb.gif
