I'm a nub to the OCN community and just joined this week. The community seems quite helpful and I have seen lots of nice build logs here. I'm a long time computer nerd. My first computer was an Atari 800. Yes, I'm old. My first PC was a 386 and it had 2MB of RAM and an 80MB hard drive. I opted for the expensive video card with 1MB of ram so I could display 256 colors at the maximum 1024x768 at the time. Wow how things have changed.
Professionally, I'm an IT Director at a fortune 100 company. I used to be on the networking, security and infrastructure side of things, but moved over to application development about 8 years ago.
Gaming-wise I am a sucker for FPS games and still fire up nQuake every now and then. I like the newer stuff like Crisis2, COD etc. as well. I'm also hopelessly addicted to MMORPGs. I started playing WoW back in vanilla shortly after Molten Core was released. I've quit twice and keep going back. I played during alpha/friends and family for two of the expansions, but have avoided it for MoP to try to keep it fresh and new.
From a mod perspective, I have built about 20 systems over the years. I didn't start doing any overclocking until about 5 years ago though. My last build (and the computer I am currently using) was my first one I would consider a true mod. I added it to my systems under my profile and attached a couple of crappy cameraphone pics. It's an AMD 1100T running at 4.1GHz. I had it running at 4.2 for a while but would occasionally get a BSOD. 4.1 has been rock solid for 6+ months. I also did a custom two-tone paint job, replaced all fans, and LEDs in the top fan, did a custom window that looks stock, and did a decent job with the cable management. I've since done better on my son's system I built for him a few months back. Always learning. I'm friends with and live in the same neighborhood as TechDaddy. I might ask him for some advice here and there, but hope to do this one 'on my own'.
My new system is going to be my dream build. But I'll get into that more when I open my build log. The parts have started to roll in, and my bank account has gotten significantly smaller.
As far as other hobbies.. I just like building stuff in general. I built a Mame cabinet from the ground up. I have built quite a few woodworking projects. Having grown up on a ranch, I know how to do most 'handy' things like welding, electrical, etc. I'm a licensed amateur radio operator (W5CMS). I'm into hotrods and own a 1969 Z/28 Camaro and my daily driver is a 2009 Mazdaspeed3. Being in Texas, and helping to reinforce stereotypes, I'm also an avid shooter and gun owner.
Anyway.. thanks for allowing me into the fold... and I look forward to getting to know a few of you.
Cheers
