CPU bottleneck?

post #1 of 3

Would an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.7GHz (Overclocked to 2.97GHz) bottleneck a Radeon HD 7850 or HD 7870? I plan on playing a large variety of games from System Shock 2 to The Witcher 2. ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard, 8GB RAM. (2x4GB)

That's not much of an overclock. See if you can get around 3.5GHZ and get the CPU-NB as high as you can. You are going to get occasional FPS dips in very CPU demanding areas of games, but the higher you can clock, the better your minimum FPS will be. Overall it should be good play experience with your CPU and GPU.

Download MSI Afterburner. Once you do that launch it and click settings:
* Click the monitoring tab
* Go to active hardware monitoring graphs
* Put a check by GPU Load and what ever else you like to view
* tick the box "Show in On-Screen Display

Go launch the game and see what percentage it shows on the gpu load. If it isn't 99% then you need to overclock your cpu to stop the bottleneck. Thanks
