Should I upgrade my X58 rig to x79 or Z77?

The title says it. Should I upgrade to either of those platforms, and the reason why? My specs are in sig.
Thanks for your time guys

It's either I go with an i5 2500k for teh Z77 or the 3820 for the X79. I am also going to do crossfire and I don't understand the differences between x16/x16 vs. x16/x8 vs x8/x8.
Do you only game? Because you probably won't notice any difference. I went from a 750 to a 3570k on much higher clocks and I never really noticed anything.

I mostly game and do photo editing with CS5 and lightroom 3. but I'm also going to do an eyefinity setup, that is why I am going with crossfire (right now the 7950 is doing wonders for me in games on a single Dell U2410)

Hold what you've got, man. Looks like you've got a solid setup that is doing everything that you ask of it. Upgrading is a lot of buck and not much bang, to distort the popular saying.

I vote for Yes + Z77 chipset + Sandy Bridge CPU thumbsupsmiley.png
Reasoning:It's moar faster sonic.gif
ex: Run IBT with your stuff..It'll get around 48-ish GFLOPS
SB chips=120-ish GFLOPS + higher RAM bandwidth.
Not Ivy Bridge chips 'cause they run too hot thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
I'd almost bet on mine will be for sale very, very soon..and not for too expensive, either.

Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it. thumb.gif There is just one last thing that can persuade me to either upgrade to a SB-E or not and that is the performance difference between dual PCI-e 3.0 x16 vs my dual PCI-e 2.0 when it comes to crossfire set ups (2x MSI 7950s in my case).

Quad SLI performance in pci-e 3.0 vs. pci-e 2.0 :
http://www.overclock.net/t/1220962/vegas-heavyweight-display-and-computer-edition-2012/370#post_16915399
This post shows quad SLI performance in pci-e 3.0 vs. pci-e 2.0 and it is huge, I was hoping that only applies to tri and quad SLI/CF setups which I am not gonna do anytime soon. Guy's name is Vegas

If you like HW then list your stuff on eBay and start selling your present HW. I unloaded a 6990 with block for 550.00, a i7-920 & P6X58 board for 220.00 in 3 days. I bought the evga z77 FTW & i7-3770k. Up and running with my old RAM & 6970 @. 4.6Ghz BIOS set 1.260v using less wattage than my X58 i7 960 @ 4.2. Waiting for my X58 Classy & i7-960 to sell then getting a GTX680.

It's funny you say that because I was thinking of upgrading to a 2600k and I have an I5 2500. With my SLI setup and after reading your post I'm thinking it's not a good way to spend my coin.
