G400 - ok for fingertip grip?

Hi guys, first post smile.gif

I'm struggling to find a mouse for my grip style. I feel embarrassed to say I didn't realise there were any other grips apart from claw and palm until today.

In the last few months I've been through a Sensei which I don't like, a Deathadder which I do and a Storm Spawn which I bought the other day.

Strangely for my small hands and fingertip grip, I loved the Deathadder. I don't know why, maybe because of the sensor, weight, balance, comfort and tracking. It just felt right. The only problem being is I've had 2 DA's die within a month, so I'm ruling out Razer. The Spawn should be right for me but feels uncomfortable and my hand fatigues quickly and my wrist hurts when using it. I'm wondering if I just get used to it over time. Anyone know when the CM fingertip mouse is being released?

So that leaves the G400 which seems to be almost the perfect mouse but I'm not sure if I could use it properly. I've had good experiences with Logitech so wondering if it's worth taking a gamble and buying one for £25 but thought I'd post here first as you guys seem to know what you're talking about!

Any advice would be appreciated and apologises if this post doesn't warrant its own thread, please merge it if that's the case.

Thanks

Many thanks for the quick response kill. I don't mind resting my whole hand against the mouse for general day to day stuff but definitely for gaming fingertips only for me. I read somewhere due to the shape of the g400 your hand is almost forced into a palm grip. I guess this isn't the case then?

I'm a fellow fingertip guy, and have used a g500 for a few years. (Just replaced it with a DeathAdder today actually) I've got larger hands, so the Adder feels awesome.

Since the G500 is the same shape as the G400, so hopefully my comparison is useful; the G500 has a little more room to move in finger tip grip than the Adder does, and is really comfortable to use. I really liked the mouse, but it just didn't track perfectly, and the off-center sensor really screwed with my head. The G400 doesn't have either of those problems, so it should be pretty good.

See if anyone you know has any G style mouse, the G5, mx518, etc. They all feel the same in terms of shape and size, and that should give you an idea of what it will feel like.

Also, try seeing if anyone on here is willing to trade with you. I'm sure you could find someone who would trade a G400 for a Sensei.

Thanks NEM3S1S, added rep for both you guys.

I was thinking about ebaying my sensei to pay for a g400, your suggestion isn't a bad one but with my OCD I think I would prefer a brand new one. I think I'll hang on to the spawn even though after extended periods it hurts my hand, there is something I do like about it.

But I'm starting to feel slightly uncomfortable with all these mice lying around. A sensei and spawn on my desk, a deathadder under the bed and a g9 stuffed in a cupboard somewhere. I might just bite the bullet and add a g400 to the list. Part of me is thinking just get a Deathadder Black Edition - maybe the quality control is slightly improved with it. I can't be unlucky 3 times in a row..

Thank you for your thoughts. I'll think things over.

^ I'm exactly the same. Took about 3 or 4 days to get used to G400...but I love it.

I've actually got a Black Edition DA, and it feels really good. I know a number of people didn't like the sides of the odler version DeathAdders, but the Black Edition is slightly rubberized, and easier to hold on to. I really like it. Mine has been fine so far, but I've only had it for about 6 hours now. (with 4 hours of gaming on it)

As far as getting another Adder is concerned, I'd go for it, get a Black Edition if you're buying a new one, or RMA the ones you have. Unless they physically broke, as in the plastic, in which case, it's more likely the way you use the mouse. (rageslam lol)

There is a common thread among all hardware that If it arrives broken, or breaks within the first month or so, it isn't really the product, but rather, just a bad egg. I.E. if you get a hard drive that goes bad in a week, that doesn't mean that line of drives is terrible, you just got a bad one. Once you get past the first month or two, you tend to be good to go.

You should RMA the Deathadder and use Spawn for the time being. G400 is a little more fingertip friendly then DA in my opinion but if you like DA you should give it one more chance smile.gif .

I used to fingertip with an mx518, but really, I find the Sensei/Kinzu much easier to fingertip, mainly due to their lower height.
Have you thought about the Kana? There's also the Razer Taipan, which seems a bit smaller than the g400/Sensei

I also have the Spawn, which tires me terribly. Its too large(width wise), simply put.
I couldn't stand it for a week.

Just a quick update. I finally received my G400 and I think I've found my mouse even for my small hands and fingertip grip. I still believe the deathadder is slightly better but not by much. It feels more balanced. The G400 seems heavier towards the front but I much prefer the software from logitech and their support is the best in case anything goes wrong. I got £34 for my sensei on ebay and my Storm Spawn is a spare now.

urgh, I feel stupid for saying this but I don't seem to have a PID. Underneath my mouse it says M/N, P/N and S/N. On the S/N it says LZ0394B8. Does this mean I have a G400 with prediction? I was really hoping it was unlikely as I bought it from amazon.co.uk last week.

ok scrap that, according to another thread here all G400's with a serial number instead of a PID are prediction free smile.gif
