VESA mounts Why purchase a $300 when they have ones for $30-$50?

So I am looking for a VESA wall mount for my 40" Sony Bravia. I went to best buy and they wanted $200-$500 for one. Now when I look on amazon I see they have a multitude of them for $30-$50.

So my question is are the $200+ mounts so much better than a $50 one? I mean all it has to do is hold my TV to some studs in the wall.

My TV is a KDL-40S5100 Sony Bravia. All I want is a good mount under $50 that won't drop my TV. Doesn't need to swivel/swing out. Just putting it on the center of a wall across from my couch eye level.

Depends what you want to do with the mount - sit flat? go cheap, they have a $50 one there that does that - tilting? gets slightly more expensive but still over priced @ best buy. Full motion? Much more - longer arm needed? Price goes up.

You'll get a better price ordering online - that being said, find a few you like print them off and bring them in - they are often more then happy to work on price IF you bring them something.

Best buy carries rocketfish and sanus mounts - both are on amazon for less

I got a $30 one from walmart holding up my 42" just fine. Its just metal and screws, I didn't notice much difference when I was shopping. The only way I would spend more money is if it was on an arm and had to swivel around.

I mounted mine to the wall studs, and I could hang from it. That being said the TV isn't going anywhere.

I personally have bought a few mounts from monoprice.com and they were excellent. Their lower gauge HDMI cables are also top notch (lower gauge is thicker wires).

HERE is a mount on newegg for $18

Just use a real 3' level to mount it. The ones that come with all these cheap kits are terrible

I get all my wall mounts from Monoprice.com - http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10828

Of the 3 I have purchased they all met or exceeded my expectations for quality. The only thing I might recommend is purchasing your own lag bolts.

Their nuts/bolts are cheap made in China. If you are not careful you can break a bolt off in the wall using too much torque when securing them. They are decent just not top quality. Don't let this scare you I am just trying to keep others from making the same mistake I did.

You will not go wrong purchasing any of these mounts on Monoprice.

I am not affiliated with the website in any way, shape, or form. They just carry good products at unbeatable prices. Bestbuy actually sources a lot of their cables, mounts, and accessories through Monoprice. Then they just slap their own brand name on it and shove it out the door with a 200% mark up. rolleyes.gif

the same reason why Best Buy's HDMI cables are so much better then Neweggs and they cost 200%+...

That being said, I needed a nice articulate mount (pull out, swivel, tilt. The whole shebang) and actually got a very good one at Target for $70 on sale. Yes I could have probably snagged it a bit cheaper online but I needed it that day. That being said, I wouldn't pay more then $100 for any wall mount unless it was fully motorized and could mount a 60"+ TV. Search around on amazon, just look for the same models they have in bestbuy and I guarantee you will find it cheaper.
