I went into an Apple store to check out a Retina Mac. Besides being a little crisper, it looks exactly the same as a non retina mac. Stand 3 feet away, and there is zero difference between the two.
Im all for crisper, but it doesn't make a lot of sense business wise. There is absolutely no REAL benefit on such a high res on such a small screen. Apple used the Retina screen purely as a selling point, and they know that. "Resolution"
An easy way for them to tack 1k on a screen. A Desktop monitor may be a different story, because you can actually see what the hell you are looking at.
I did the same. At 3 feet, there isn't much difference, but who uses a laptop 3 feet away. It's more like 1.5 feet when I'm using a laptop, and I saw a huge difference.
