[Build Log] Chinook (Bitfenix Prodigy / P8Z77-I Deluxe / Ref. GTX 670 / Liquid Cooling)

Chinook

Like the Boeing CH-47 Chinook the concept of this build includes a tandem rotor in the top of the case (240 mm radiator) powered by two turbines (front and back case fans). The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is an American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Its primary roles include troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply. It is faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. Under heavy overclocking this build will also be faster than contemporary PCs and it will be able to take you to any PC gaming battlefield.

Under full load this build will generate a warm air flow also known as Chinook Winds in the interior West of North America. A strong Chinook can make snow one foot deep almost vanish in one day. The snow partly melts and partly evaporates in the dry wind. Let's hope at least the Arctic White of the Prodigy will stay. cool.gif

One of its most striking features is the Chinook Arch, which is a band of stationary stratus clouds caused by air rippling over the mountains. They can create stunning sunrises and sunsets starting with yellow, orange, red and pink shades in the morning as the sun comes up and ending with pink / red colors, and then orange / yellow hues just before the sun sets. The shape of the arches can be recognized in the soft touch handles of the Prodigy. The mix of snow covered grounds and red skies will be reflected by an arctic white / UV red interior theme.

Another build using the Apogee Drive II. smile.gif
And a build which actually uses the vast cavernous space inside the Prodigy to good effect thumb.gif

Good luck!

I have decided to use a UV red coolant and to plug a red LED into the Water Tank Z-Multi. Together with the red LED disc on the Apogee Drive II this will hopefully reflect what I have in mind.

This is supposed to match the colors of a Chinook Arch during sunrise/sunset. I have added some details about Chinook Arches in the first post.

I am going to abort this mission.

Last weekend I was actually ready to pull the trigger on my shopping list. But I didn't feel comfortable with spending another $1,100+ on this. All the small components add up quickly and spoil the bottom line. It's funny because I am earning more money than I spend - when I went to college it used to be the other way around. Anyway perhaps people will find inspiration in my concept for the Chinook build. Here is what the Prodigy will look like after holding off:

Spare parts used in this build:

  • Intel Core i5-2500 K
  • ADATA XPG Gaming Series (DDR3-1600G)
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Superclocked
  • Crucial m4 128 GB
  • Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 120GB
  • Samsung CD/DVD Burner SH-S223C

New parts used in this build:

  • $200 Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe
  • $90 Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BK
  • $74 be quiet! Straight Power E9 400 W
  • $20 Bitfenix Spectre Pro 230 White
  • $100 Bitfenix Prodigy Arctic White

Total $484

It's a shame you're letting go of the watercooling, but it looks great nonetheless. Is your CPU overclocked and what kind of temps are you seeing with that cooler?

Sooner or later I will check out the overclocking. Now that I have made my decision against watercooling it will be interesting to see how this setup can compete against watercooled rigs. I know watercooling isn't just about better performance but anyway.
