Buying new AMD MoBo + new Processor - Page 2

I agree with the above.. Get a good board and see if the processor works however since you dont have your cooling I assume you are on air... it might be time to do some research on the closed loop water coolers or better. These processors put out some serious heat when overclocked. the cooler the processor runs the cooler your system will run and last longer. .. by keeping case temps down. Also I got the sabertooth about a month ago with a 8120 and with a few clicks and help from truckerguy it auto overclocked to just under 4.0 gig. People are getting overclocks better than that. I havent had time to push it yet. I also see a lot of overclockers putting a fan on the chipsets. or above them. Especially if they use water cooling or a closed loop system. (no maintenance. )
I got the sabertooth for the 5 year warranty. Hopefully i will not have to use it.
I also picked up a thermaltake water 2.0 extreme but it is wayyy overpriced these days. I got mine at 119. 99 saw it this week for 149.99

take a look at what other people that overclock the 8120 are using if you go that route. Also if you dont have a
ssd you are missing out. I use one for a boot drive and a large drive for storage.
good luck. There are a lot of good boards out there. Pick one of the above and you are ahead of the game.

Thread Starter
I think I will probably pick up an SSD around christmas time.

I think it could be helpful for me to have one, simply because I'm testing out one of my databases occasionally, and that could speed things up.

I ended up getting both a processor and mobo (the crossfire). I really don't have time to overclock like I used to, but... it's also nice to have the option.

Thank you all for the replies.

I personally would wait for Vishera to launch. And see what the FX-8350 has to offer. I'm only going to say it because nobody has yet but, for the same price you could be rocking a high end Intel platform (i5 3570k + Z77). Which will still walk circles around Bulldozer, Vishera, and even Steamroller. No fanboyism going on here, I just like getting the biggest bang for the buck. Higher frame rates in games, faster compiles and editing, and will beat out next years AMD processors (without a doubt since it will still be Bulldozer based architecture). I love AMD and their many years of low cost, high performance processors. Its just one of them things, if your going to upgrade both you might as well go all out. Which wont even cost you that much more, if it was just a dead CPU or a dead motherboard, id say just replace it with a new 990FX. But yea, that's my input I guess.
