Question about tRFC

Thread Starter
Hi, I just noticed that the row refresh cycle time of my new memory kit at it's rated speeds is very high when I looked at other people's results.

My RAM specs

G.skill Trident x 2400 32gb (4x8) on my Rampage IV Extreme

CL 10
tRDC 12
tRP 12
tRAS 31
tRFC 347
CR 2T

I would like to know is that normal at all and wherter it's available to be lowered and how much. I would also like to know could command rate 1 be used with my kit and how much would it improve performance.

-Thanks beforehand

That may be the best it can be.  I have a 2 x 4 GB kit of 1866 MHz Ripjaws X Series, and my tRFC is at 150 with it set to Auto.  I'm assuming that if I were to somehow get my memory to 2400 MHz, then my tRFC would probably have to be at about 350 or higher too.

Regarding 1T vs. 2T:  all I can recommend is experimentation.  However, I think you won't notice a difference in real-world performance.

Well, I have seen people with 32gb RAM kits at 2400 with a lot lower tRFC settings so I just started to wonder where I do have a too high amount myself.

It's true that tRFC must often be increased dramatically with very high density DIMMs, especially when used two per channel, and high clock speeds complicate this further. However, I've never seen a tRFC setting that high.

I'd be wary about reducing it; at that density and speed it may well be necessary, and a lose tRFC doesn't hurt performance much.

As for command rate, very few setups with two DIMMs per-channel are completely stable with a CR of 1.
