Depending on what kind of video cards you have and other stuff on the board. It will reserve some ram for that. Since I don't know what hardware yo have or motherboard. You can run:
* msconfig
* Boot Tab
* Advanced Tab
* Check The Maximum Memory
* Move it to the 16GB
* Hit Okay, Apply And Restart

You can also fill out your specs by following this guide. Thanks

I don't know why my rig wasn't in my signature but there it is. the thing is my bios shows 12gb but under the specific ram dimm post i show 16gb.
i am very confused
and msconfig only showed a max of 12gb

I've had the same issue. It's is such a royal PITA.

For me it was actually a bent pin in the CPU socket. Once I fixed the pin the problem went away.

Have you tried reseating all of the ram? Have you tried each slot individually to see which one is problematic?

Is your ram voltage correct?

Ram voltage is correct. Bent pin is something I don't want to hear as I just reseated my cpu to allow for my water cooling setup. Is it obvious when you look at the socket?
Trying the ram individually now...

Yep, that seems like a bent pin.

My situation was exactly the same. I reseated the cpu while installing a new waterblock and somehow managed to bend a pin.

Try to reseat the cpu again and take a look at the socket. Most pins will be lined up in neat rows. You may notice that one or two pins dont line up with the rest of the rows. With a super fine nose tweezers or a needle try to nudge the pins to align with the row that it's in. Be very careful not to apply pressure as you might break the pin.

If you cant see which pin is bent, take some pics.

I'm just going to RMA the board. When I take it apart I will check to see if it is a bent pin or not thumb.gif

I dunno man. Be careful with that. I don't think any manufacturers cover bent pins.

If the you can fix it and the board wasn't giving you any other problems, just keep it.thumb.gif
