- have tool use as an option e.g. Apogee HD (screwdriver) or Sniper (12mm hex socket driver)
- bottom out the thumbscrews at the "right" point - this means you're less likely to get an uneven of off center TIM spread e.g. Apogee HD, EK Supremacy, EK Supreme HF
- have parts of the mount attached rather than floating on top of the block (e.g. particularly not the raystorms, or the Iceforce though that one is not as bad). The apogee HD take that to an extreme by having the screws retained to the block when you remove it. I like that, except it's a pain to change the screws for a different motherboard
- has large thumbscrews that are easy on the thumbs e.g. EK blocks and not the mips block
So from all of that it seems like I like the apogee the best on mounts so far. BUT I haven't finished all the blocks yet. I have to admit that I like testing on socket 2011 because you don't have to change the backplate thumb.gif
P.S I'll be on number 11 this evening.

#11 ?!?!?! Won't be long now. Thanks for all the hard work!

Who cares about mounting unless you are to hook on/off block each day.
Ok, it it looks like some beanstalk coming out of socket that would suck, but what dominates is performance before anything else. It is like asking yourself which air conditioning unit has best wall mount.

I guess when a tester does 5 different mounts to take the average value out of results does remember well which mounting bruised his finger most and makes sure to mention that in conclusion, but a every day user does not need to do the install choreography.

I'd certainly say that's more opinion based...I for one care a lot about how well something is mounted and how easy it is to remove/install. yes, perfomance is #1 but that certainly doesn't mean that's the only thing to look for, especially when a lot of blocks will be performing similarly.

Mounting matters, with both waterblocks and AC units, haha.

Yeah different things matter to different people. To me it's more useful if results are close. If you prefer the look and mount of one block but it's a 0.3C worse would you choose the better performing block or not? Often there is a bigger factor in performance with respect to pump power and TIM than there is between switching blocks thumb.gif

That and if the mounting system is easier to install and or play with, chances are you are going to get better performance (assuming everything else is up to par) because you'll get more consistent pressure.

I remember a while back I had a great air cooler but he mounting system was horrid and could never get it to mount very well.

But agreed, if a block has a nicer mounting system I'll take the 0.3C or so performance it.

Yeah standard deviation of mounts is useful info also so I'll be publishing that. The other factor to consider is how wide the ports are spaced. Most blocks are fine these days, but the HeatKiller can't fit my QDC's on it mad.gif

Oh, yes, very good point. There are several blocks that I want but are either not suitable for certain compression fittings, QDCs, or some other factor like 90* fittings. blah, haha.
