Really Low i7 PPD... - Page 2

Yea, going back a version from v7 is about the only solution. It sucks, I'd say about 75% of my folding is on these damn WUs... I'm averaging 18k a day over the last 30 days or so, and this WU is to blame. There's a couple mixed in that come across very rarely... one of them gives me around 75k PPD...

So I take it these WUs are bounded to the v7 client?

[edit]
I redid everything and I'm running older clients for both the CPU and GPU. My GPU remained the same since it's still getting the 8008 units which aren't bad. Made the initial mistake of forgetting the SMP flag so I was getting 1600PPD but got it sorted out after a few minutes. I'm up to 13.4K PPD with an 8014. I got a few of them when I was running the v7 client and I'm getting the same PPD which is good. I do like how much easier the v7 client is compared to these:/

I'm not really comfortable with the whole Linux thing and I'm not folding for the team competition with anything in this rig. Also with this I like being able to shut down teh client and whenever I want to game. The HTPC is running the VM because I'm trying to max it out without running native linux.

[edit]
Also I'm only running 4gb of RAM which is finally not enough after holding out for so long and running the VM would kill my RAM if I were doing anything on it at the same time as the VM

VM gives awful performance to the PC if you try to do anything while folding. I couldn't even browse OCN smoothly with a Linux VM going. I'd rather get lower PPD and have a usable PC.

I experienced poor performance on my PC when folding in a VM using VirtualBox, but using VMware Player 3.0 I haven't had the same issue.

Only reasonable guide I could find was VirtualBox, which is what I have installed as well. Couldn't find a guide that I understood for VMWare :/

Ah well, unless you have something that is simple for me to understand and follow, I'll have to stick to Windows v7 client folding...

On a side note... I'm about to break 1 million points... I'm like 50k away smile.gif

Cool, cool, congrats on the milly, or near milly.  I've seen a few guides, recently I've been using this:  http://linuxforge.net/docs/crunching/fah-vmware.php  It's a vmware image you can just open in vmware player, and it's a pretty well optimized linux build for folding.  I like it at least, and was getting 35-42k PPD on my 2600k with it folding SMP, so it's pretty close to native performance.

I'll have to mess with this tomorrow. If I can game with it running using this VM, it'll be my new method of folding!
