The amount of thrust required to lift a person would require absurdly huge fans/engines, not to mention where that power would even come from - batteries or fuel both take up a ton of space. We're decades away (possibly centuries?) from being able to fit such technology into something as flat/small as a board while exerting the same amount of propulsion.

I don't even think it would be possible though. CPUs, GPUs, memory, etc. are all getting smaller transistors. But remember that the energy used isn't mechanical, but electrical so it is possible to make transistors work at such small sizes. A mechanical technology, such as an engine does have much more restraints on size than an electronic technology. Just my prediction.

Upon reading the wiki article, anti-gravity is supposed to be impossible according to General Relativity.

It would piss off Einstein frown.gif

Apparently the existence of "negative mass" isn't entirely ruled out...but trying to understand how the hell anything can have a negative mass started to make my head hurt. I can somewhat understand that such an object would repel gravity if it existed, since it not only weighs nothing, it weighs less than nothing and would therefore always be trying to get away from other sources of gravity (i.e. all other objects).

Point in fact is that a hover board is completely doable right now, albeit requires a track. Therein lies the real issue: if it needs a track, it isn't really a hover board is it?

For those who have been sleeping for the last century:

[Edit]
A more modern use of this is a Maglev train ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev ).

You could pretty much make a hover-anything if you were allowed to use magnetic tracks. Hovercars, hoverchairs, hoverboards, hovercows...

nah, more like just a skatepark, it would be an expensive skatepark, but if you could make the board powerful enough it would be possible.
