which leads me to another question since I've been curious about the H100 recently: If you had no fans running in your entire rig at all, none, would you be able to hear the pump if it were four feet (or 1.22m) away. Case closed with side panels on. Given the ambient noise of a normal room at night.
opinions are welcome.

you can hear the pump even with fans on.

Corsair found a slight manufacturing problem with the H100 pump and some power supplies which causes the noise. This is the thread where CorsairGeorge discusses the issue, so RMA the H100 if you have noise issues.

Corsair has now tracked down and fixed a rare and hard to reproduce issue on some of our Hydro series coolers, specifically the H60, H80, and H100 when used in combination with certain power supplies in certain circumstances. The failure will present itself as a buzz or hum, similar to a hard drive seek noise, and may disappear and reappear at random times. This issue affects a very small number of units, and typically is more prevalent on power supplies that provide higher than +12.2V on the +12V rail, which explains why some users have experienced multiple units with the same issue – they’re plugging them into the same power supply.

Regardless, this has since been corrected and we are now shipping units that do not experience the issue. If you’ve got a noisy H100, H80, or H60 unit, and the noise is coming from the pump (not the fans), we’d like to offer you a selective RMA. Please email us at RMAservice@corsair.com with the subject line “Hydro Series Buzz” and include your name, phone number, shipping address, and email address. We will contact you to start a replacement with a known good unit.

Thank you, and we appreciate your patience as we corrected this issue.

What about all the old product still in the warehouses and on shelves?

Corsair H100 full speed is 55dBA @ 41c delta @ 2500rpm
Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E full speed is 38dBA @ 42c delta @ 1000rpm & 1300rpm
Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme full speed is 56dBA @ 34c delta @ 2500rpm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6xrsuPwDbo

Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme @ 1200-1300rpm will perform & sound same as SB-E @ 1000rpm & 1300rpm

Most AC coolers are of similar noise to SB-E at full speed.

No fan control included but easy to do with motherboard PWM CPU fan socket. and Akasa or Geild PWM fan splitter. These splitters use one fan's rpm send to motherboard and motherboard sends PWM signal to all fans and power to fans is molex connector to PSU. This way motherboard power can't be overloaded.

3, 4, & 5 fans. I use the 5 fan for future proofing wink.gif All fans in my system (7fans) are controlled with these.

There is a maximum number of fans motherboard PWM signal will power. I can run 9 on mine.
