yeah i wanted the LED's to match my case too. They look quite cool. If you can live with it, great but you are definatly correct in thinking it should light up without hooking any fans up etc
Connecting the molex is enough to get the system working, the 3 pin header just monitors pump speed and tricks the system into thinking the CPU fan is connected to stop the CPU fan error coming up in the BIOS (although this is easily disabled anyway!)

I am running an H100 with my fans on a seperate fan controller WITH my pump running at max, you just have to push the button to set it up to run at max.
You don't HAVE to use the controller on the H100. I am running without any issues at all here.
Plus you may burn out the fan controller on the H100 with 4 UK3Ks running on it. Hell even with 2 may be an issue.

I ordered a separate fan controller to power 4UK fans. I never plugged them in to the h100. But I did plug in the two stock corsair fans it came with and they worked fine, the ligh came on and did what it should when you pressed the button.. Then I unplugged the two fans and hasn't worked since.
