A couple watercooling questions.

Thread Starter
hey

I have a couple questions regarding watercooling and I'm hoping you guys can help me out. It would be a much appreciated and anyone who makes a significant post will get reputation.

1) I'm doing a ROG build (so black and red color scheme) and I can't choose whether or not to go with Primochill UV Red tubing, or tygon tubing with a red dye. If I do go with a dye, what would be the best for an ROG build? A deep red would be nice.

2) I'd like to keep my build quiet (25 db at the most, would prefer under 20) so I'd need a low airflow fan (i'm pretty sure) so a low airflow optimized radiator. I've been looking at the Black Ice SR1. Is there anything better? Also, I'd like some 140mm fans to go with it. What are the best, low noise low flow fans available in 140mm?

3) A single MCP655 is enough for a 420 radiator, CPU block, 2x GPU block, and a 280 rad... right?

1. If you want deep red, go with clear tubing and Mayhem's blood red dye. Red tubing is not dark enough.
2. In the case of fans, go to Martins site http://martinsliquidlab.org/
3. I would use two with pump tops. This will give you redundancy and plenty of flow.

This is Mayhem's blood red and you can add more to get your desired color.

This is what i went with ..for a rad i used alphacool UT60 420mm and push/pull with Bitfenix spectre pro black fans ..nice and quiet while providing enough cfm and back psi to drive that rad just fine. The highest flowrate cpu block is DT sniper. then i cant help much with gpu blocks . and theseekeroffun is spot on with the dye and tubing recommendation. Also i am using 1/2 x 3/4 tubing to maximize flow.. And to answer your question about 1 mcp655 yes with a high flow top. The reason i did this setup is down the road i am adding additional gpu block and 280mm UT60 so i wanted a high flowrate setup to allow for more blocks and i wanted it quiet. The pump I am using is alphacool vpp655 high flow top 1500L/H. Hoped this helped. Here is UT60 review

Ok, a couple more questions. and +rep to everybody.

Would bitfenix pro PWM's best with all around radiators? or should I go with a slow fan speed radiator? Additionally, are the spectre pro's the best 140mm PWM fan that also look good and are quite? Also, Since I'll be overclocking, it would be MUCH better to go wit 7970's, right? Also, what would be the best 7970 block then?

last, would this be the optimal setup? (and sorry for my wicked photoshop skillzzz)

Awesome block for a Reference 7970 http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_971_240_578&products_id=33576

I tend to favor Nvidia right now for GPU though. Your depicted air flow looks fine. but you can always experiment with the fans that are drawing air into your case to see what affects temps for your rads. and interior temp. Since you wanted quiet its hard to beat that sr1 at 600rpm fan speeds. This fan has similar cfm but higher max pressure http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13925/fan-905/Akasa_140mm_x_25mm_Apache_Black_Super_Silent_PWM_Fan_w_Hydro_Dynamic_Bearings_-_Black_AK-FN062.html?tl=g36c365s1507.. I like those specs. Up to you on what looks good though.

Alot of guys like these as well http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10215/fan-659/Noiseblocker_NB-BlackSilentPro_PK-3_140mm_x_25mm_Ultra_Quiet_Fan_-_1700_RPM_-_27_dBA.html?tl=g36c15s775

Do double check your room available for that push/pull with a 60mm rad and 50mm of fans or you could end up like this.

Do you really want a 7970? Have you looked into what guys are getting with overclocked gtx 680's. Thats a whole other argument though.biggrin.gif

If going with the Switch 810, be aware that a 60mm thick rad will require some cutting to fit push fans. The XSPC EX420, which is my chosen rad, is 36.5mm thick so would offer much more room for push fans. Even though it is 19fpi, if doing push-pull fans you should be able to run them rather quietly while maintaining good temps, and it will also scale up better with fan speed if you need extra cooling. The Bgears Blasters 140mm 1800rpm fans are the highest static pressure 140mm fans I have found, but you will need a fan controller if you want true quiet.

The EX420 is equivalent to the RX at 1000rpm but better at faster speeds and is just over half as thick. Not to mention it is $70-75 so much cheaper than the HWLABS radiators.

Ok, I have a couple more questions.

I decided I'd rather have performance over quiet, but not noise either. As long as the noise it at whisper level, or lower. What would be some good higher rpm fans and a more performance, higher density radiator? I'd like to keep everything under 30 db or lower.

Which waterblock should I go for with my 680's? The heat killer one, or an Aquacomputer one?

Also, how good are the Mips RAM and Motherboard blocks?

Once again, +rep to anybody who helps.

I have to admit I am not happy with Bitfenix spectre pro.. Not enough perfromance..so after asking and looking around Koolance fans are looking real good ..especially the 120mm 25 and 120mm 38
Also for the 140mm I am really liking the Bgears.. Do you want to spend a lot http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9015/ex-rad-158/Black_Ice_GT_Xtreme_420_Radiator_-_Black.html?tl=g30c95s931

or save a little and still have great performance http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16826/ex-rad-427/Alphacool_NexXxoS_UT60_Full_Copper_Triple_140mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s931

cant go wrong with Alphacool..I thought you were going 7970??
which 680? reference?

Also for the 140mm I am really liking the Bgears.. Do you want to spend a lot http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9015/ex-rad-158/Black_Ice_GT_Xtreme_420_Radiator_-_Black.html?tl=g30c95s931
or save a little and still have great performance http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16826/ex-rad-427/Alphacool_NexXxoS_UT60_Full_Copper_Triple_140mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s931
cant go wrong with Alphacool..I thought you were going 7970??
which 680? reference?

I'll be going with the EVGA GeForce GTX 680+ 4GB w/Backplate.

Also, I need a thinner rad to go on top of my case (bottom can be thick) , so which would be the best there? The Black Ice GT Stealth?

I'd be going with the nickel plated version of the aquablock for looks and the nickel and black version of the Heatkiller block.

Also, BGears B-Blaster, or noiseblocker PK-3? I know the BGears one performs better, but how loud is it? I don't need total silence but, I'd prefer something that's whisper level or lower.
