I3 2100 + ASRock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI SATA $173
Samsung 30nm 2x4gb wonder ram $46.99
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 $28 after AR and promo code Corsair724
now find a cheap 120/8 gb ssd + 500gb hdd storage and dvd-rom if needed.

You suggested an mATX motherboard for an mITX-only case (though I can vouch for the Prodigy being a fantastic case).

Intel's integrated HD Graphics 2000 is horrible.

I think an i3 2125 + ASRock H77M-ITX would make a lot more sense.
That is a good setup also but there is Zero gaming and some video watching. the hd 2000 would be plenty for his mom but a nightmare for us. biggrin.gif

Okay just put this build together, with your requirements. (I've built a computer for my mom too, I know what its like tongue.gif)

CPU - i5-2500k. Solid CPU.
Motherboard - ASRock Z77 Pro 4-M. Great brand.
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws 4gb. Cheap, add more when needed.
Case - Fractal Design Define Mini. Silent, looks good (opinion)
SSD - Corsair M4 64gb. Great for OS and other used applications.
HDD - Samsung Spinpoint F3 500gb. Good spinner, gets the job done.
Cooler - CM Hyper 212+. Great for the price, keeps the CPU cool.
PSU - Silverstone 550w. Great brand. More than enough power.
Monitor - Asus 21.5 VE228H. Good brand, good reviews.
OS - Windows 7 Home OEM 64bit.

Total 925.90 before shipping and tax (CA)

Maybe your mom would like the phantom? a lot of what people think of when they see a computer is the case, some people like the crafted look of the phantom, some people like the industrial of the CM cases, some people like the minimalism of fractal design/silverstone/antec, there's tons of choice as airflow is not really a problem tongue.gif

I think you need to look for better deals, or seriously dumb down the pc a bit lol. Like they were saying; its like 400 bucks too expensive. You can get an i5-2500k or 3570k from microcenter for 160 right now according to a sale sheet i got when i went there, though I'd definitely suggest you go with an i3. There isn't much use for a 550 Ti honestly or any dedicated gpu really. You might as well get something cheaper like a 6700 radeon or something just to get the 1920X1080 resolution. You probably wouldn't need the cpu cooler either. I believe Fry's is currently selling W7SP1 for $70 (thats what i saw when i went there).

If you want a quick, snappy computer, add an SSD.

You're spending way too much for a computer that's gonna do nothing but basic general task. Here's a much better and more price friendly solution:

Intel Core i7 3770S - $310

ASRock H77M - $75

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600 - $46

Crucial M4 256GB SSD - $220

Samsung F3 500GB - $70 ($10 off with Promocode EMCNCHD37 ends 8/1)

Corsair CX500 - $60 ($10 off with Promocode EMCNCHD32 ends 8/1)

Asus 24X DVD Burner $20 ($3 off w/ promo code EMCNCHF22, ends 7/30)

And a case of your choosing...

Total - $800 not including Taxes/Rebates/Shipping

________________________________________________

Since you had a decent budget i decided to go and use some of it. 3770S for future proofing, power saving, and HD 4000 Graphics. SSD for snappiness and 8GB should be all she'll ever need. This'll last you a long while. I'm pretty sure you're mom will be blown away by anything out, whether it's a Sandy i3, Ivy i5, or i7..just add an SSD and she'll be blown away no matter which you choose. Hope this helps, good luck with your build.

this computer should cost you no more then $500, it is all basic computing tasks. An i3 will suffice for the next 5 years for what she is doing, and by then I am sure you will have upgraded your rig once maybe even twice if you like to have the latest and greatest. Then you can just reuse your old hardware and give her an upgrade that will last ANOTHER 2-3 years.
