Choosing mechanical Keyboard.

Thread Starter
Ok ill say it ouright. I dont know jack with mechanical keyboards. But i have done some research and I found I prefer the light push regardless if its tactile or not: Cherry MX red or Brown.
Now I have 2 questions. I am under the impression that Browns have a light touch with sort of a double click. Reds on the other hand are just like black switches except they dont require as much force. Is this correct?

Secondly, I have a bit of trouble choosing between these 3 keyboards:
Filco Majestouch 2 Cherry MX Red Switch 104 Key Mechanical Keyboard:http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=70719&vpn=FKBN104MRL%2FEB2&manufacture=Filco
Cooler Master Storm Trigger: http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=71928&vpn=SGK-6000-GKCM1-US&manufacture=COOLERMASTER
Corsair K90: http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=64131&vpn=CH-9000003-NA&manufacture=Corsair&promoid=1360
Can someone please help me give the pros and cons of each keyboard? Cause like I said, ive never really seen these keyboards or even touched them. i am still using a stock HP one that came with my last computer!

i have never seen the filco board in person

but i have some experience with both the trigger and k90

the trigger has a high profile for a keyboard, but it comes with a wrist rest. Not sure if it bugs you but depending on how high you set your seat it may bend your wrist to uncomfortable levels

the k90 is feels naked, since the normally mechanical keyboards have their switches lower than the border of the keyboard frame, but this one is exposed. It is definitely easier for cleaning.

in terms of switches, red is pretty light compared to most. I prefer brown because it gives off that tactile feel without the loud click that blue gives off. very comfortable for typing

red and black switches give no distinction when the switch activates, so most of the time people bottom out of them regardless. the difference between blacks and reds is the force needed to activate them

aside from the info on the switches, this is mostly my opinion. hope this helps smile.gif

(edited) ow and the k90 definitely has more macro keys
are you going to game with it?

The Filco is higher quality than the others and you have your choice of switch. The corsair and trigger are both backlit though. The Corsair and trigger have macros. The corsair has some rubber dome keys.

Any will be fine over mesh wink.gif.

From the top of my head, the Filco will have the best quality among the 3 you have chosen. Keep in mind the Corsair K90 is not fully mechanical, as a few keys are mesh, so that would be my con against Corsairs. As for CM Storm, I'd actually like to try that keyboard out. Yeah these are my bias opinions on each board. Overall, I'd go with Filco, though you wouldn't go wrong with CM. Also, I'm not a fan of the TONS of macro keys on the K90, bit overkill lol

I have the K90. Best keyboard I have ever bought in my god damn life. It's a little big if you're planning on carrying it everywhere because of the macro keys. But it's definitely worth it! It feels good to use, and very easy to clean and keep tidy. I definitely recommend the K90.
