now the challenge is going to be finding one of these "ROG expanders" that add 4x SLI capabilities to the Rampage 3 Extreme, wish me luck lol

Thank you for your service smile.gif

As for the xpander.... PM derickwm on here.

thanks everyone!

what do you think about getting dual: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127695

also how would the performance of one or two of those compare to my current 3x GTX 470s?

Man 2 of those would blow the 470s out of the water.

Oh, and if it helps, my friend is running tri-SLI 670s (should probably run similar to 680s) on his i7-920. We tried running both SLI and tri-SLI, definitely only felt the bottleneck at 3 cards. 2 ran completely fine.

they looks like great cards, fast stock, cool and quiet. I'm looking at going with a multiple monitor setup (hopefully 3d vision works with 3 screens) and the extra vram should really pay off. hopefully the i7 970 with a wild overclock will be enough to compensate for any potential bottleneck

1- GTX 680s are faster than the 470s. Especially if the 470s are stock.
I guess 3x GTX 470s = 2x 580s ?

2- 2x 470 = are slightly slower than a GTX 680
I guess 2x 680s will be 30%+ better than 3x 470s.

2x 470s vs 670.

well if those 2x gtx 470s are slightly slower than a gtx 670 (most likely the 2gb model) than the 2x gtx 680s should be a lot faster than 3x gtx 470s becuase the 3rd card simply didn't scale well and the higher levels of VRAM should make a huge difference especially if I go with 3x displays

thanks! good find on that bench btw

Interesting, I did a lot of benchmarking on mine and mine showed about a 7% bottleneck on some games that were more gpu demanding on my i7 920 @ 4ghz.

This.

In terms of real life performance I saw the biggest boost in speed when I switched from an HDD to SDD. At least, holding all other parts constant. XD

But no, I agree with everyone else, the 970 shouldn't bottleneck a beastly setup like a GTX 690 or 680s in SLI.
