I agree, the biggest upgrade that was noticeable was an SSD. OH MY GOD i can't stand mechanical drives now... sooooooooooooo sloooooooooooow.

I'm not sure but I believe he's either on a 4.2 or a 4.5 Ghz 24/7 overclock.

well I just made the jump and ordered the 4gb MSI gtx 680 and another 2 3d monitors to complement the one that I have to give Nvidia surround a try. Im debating removing the bevels but thats a different story all together. I'll end up getting a second gtx 680 in about 2 weeks or so and possibly a 128gb SSD shortly thereafter and that should about sum up all my upgrades. I might consider getting a heatkiller WB but thats last on my list of things of do, right now I have my priorities like getting home and upgrading this rig wink.gif

I'd say you have more options with 680s SLI, more potential performance as well considering you can get two 4 gig 680s that are factory overclocked and have better cooling. For example, 2 680 lightnings will dust a 690. 2 680 FTW's will dust a 690.

BUT, if later down the road you want 4 680s...it might just be easier to get a 690 now and a 690 later. If 2 GPU's is your limit though, get 680s

Personally, just get a 680 lightning now, (or FTW by EVGA) , then when you need it, get a second one down the road.

Congrats on the new setup. I would leave yourself a good upgrade path. Trust me I had 680sli with my 3x 3d monitors and I was left with wanting much more performance. 3d surround is hard as hell to run in the newer AA games, but oh so damn gorgeous! Max Payne 3 absolutely blew me away in 3d surround, a must have. Enjoy.

Btw your 920 will not bottleneck 680 SLI, but it will bottleneck when you get up to 3-4way SLI.

dually noted. I decided to get the 2x gtx 680 partially because with the R3E I am unable to go quad sli so I decided I could go 3x sli with 680s on the R3E before I updated to a newer motherboard platform down the road. I dont know how much 3d gaming I'll do in or out of surround but I decided for continuity with the multiple monitor setup and now with 3 of the same monitor I'll have the option to go 3D if need be

I was looking at the FTW or the lightnings but I opted for the MSI due to its cooler temps, higher stock clocks and lower sound levels. I've never gone with MSI before, i've been predominately an EVGA person but EVGA getting rid of the lifetime waranty led me to want to give another brand a shot. also this MSI twin cooler looks pretty slick IMO
