Which brand do you prefer and why? I am on an Amd Phenom II x4 965 black edition.

Would I notice or really feel a difference running an Intel cpu over my Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz or not enough that it warrants me to switch to Intel?

There's no plain way of answering this. You can't compare them brand-to-brand like that, you have to do it on the CPU-to-CPU level. I recommend that you look up benchmarks on your own instead of asking other people.

for gaming you are going to be more GPU limited, look at this review http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-7970-cpu-scaling-performance-review/

Other than that, the intel fanboys will swear that you will see ungodly amounts of better performance from intel, and amd fanboys will swear that aside from gaming you will see so much more boost with whatever you're doing. I honestly think that when it comes down to gaming you can'y go wrong with either side as long as your GPU is nice and strong, I could show you some benchmarks if you think AMD is too weak. I know nothing about the newer AMD chips though, I do love my thuban, but don't know much about the fx line other than they seem to OC like nobodies business.

amd will do fine for most in terms of any Phenom II, however Intel has the performance crown.

It really comes down to budget

I've got good gaming performance with AMD. , It certainly does not hold me back..

I stick with AMD because I think its more fun to overclock. If gaming was my sole motivation I would just go with the cheapest CPU and chuck more cash into the gpu.

imo it comes down to personal preference alot of people like intel and alot like amd for most new games you wont notice much difference at all in performance as stated above it comes down to what gpu you have (for gaming) but if you are rendering a high oc'd intel will be slightly faster in some and some programs preffer amd, to me it all depends on what you rig is for tbh.

Depends on what you're doing with your computer / your budget / where you can buy parts, now doesn't it?

If you want to ask a question that can actually be answered reasonably and isn't simply meant to start a forum war, maybe you'll get a specific answer.

Had both in the past year. Went from a 965 @4.1 to a i5 3570k @ 4.0. The performance increase is maybe 10%-15% tops maybe a little more.

Gaming wise no real improvement except maybe 10-13 Fps in BF3 and maybe 10-20 fps in skyrim.

I would drop the most money on a graphic card for gaming instead of a processor.
