Right but its a GPU and he's talking about CPU processing power. Ther is no way in hell its 10 times more powerful than a xenon powerpc triple core (3 cores 6 threads) That processor STILL is a DECENT CPU... the limitation of the xbox and even the ps3 is the ram and the gpu.. not the cpu.. the cpus were always very good.

That xenon is technically more powerful than my i72600k even though it only has 6 threads and mine has 8. at 3.2 Ghz that xenon beats it.. even @ 5 GHZ my 2600k doesnt even come close to doing the floating point the xenon does.

The notion Microsoft would entertain using an Atom for a game console is proof that all gaming journalism is rumor based and written by people who lack any understanding of hardware architecture what-so-ever.

115 Gflops? The Q6600 was way more powerful and does 35 Gflops. Where are you getting 115 Gflops from? I'd say it's probably closer to 20 Gflops.

Or am I missing something, are the console processors just floating-point beasts? Games do need a lot of floating point math.

Regardless, even if 115 Gflops is accurate, you don't think a 9 year newer processor could be 10x faster?

EDIT: Looks like a lot of sources are saying 115 Gflops. If this (below) is true, then the Xbox 360 is 48x faster than the original Xbox. I don't think 10x faster is unreasonable for the next Xbox, or even 20x faster.

I'm guessing consoles have a high floating point performance at the cost of integer performance, among other things.

So......hardware, Teraflops, and floating points aside.....do y'all think that "Durango" will come out ahead of Microsoft's initially allotted roadmap? The XBox 360 was supposed to be their main console for a decade. It released just before XMas of 2005, right? So we **should** have a few more years to really worry about Durango competing with our beloved desktops.

Console generations overlap, the 360 was supposed to sell for at least 10 years. Durango will be out by November 2013 at the latest.

you all are looking at this very wrong when it comes to pc gaming and console
Xbox 360 Dashboard (or System Software), is the updatable software and operating system for the Xbox 360. It resides on a 16 MB file system and has access to a maximum of 32 MB of the system's memory.
Windows 7 os is between 15-20GB, and on a fresh install at idle uses no less than 1.5gb of ram.

for christ sake, we are talking about an OS that would fit on a Smart Phone, with a midrange pc (by the time it comes out) hardware..
going over what they currently THINK it will have is like throwing napalm on the grill to cook steak.

for a computer site, you'd think some of you would actually understand the concept of runing a 16mb - 32mb OS vs windows for gaming.
maybe, just maybe, the limitations on gaming is that the game makers don't see a need to spend months of work and millions of dollars, adding in super ultra mega hardcore pwn-yo-pc graphics for the small die hards that run the latest graphics cards in sli/cf, super overclocked ram, raid ssd, cpu oc'd to 5ghz, with liquid nitrogen on your daily computer. ( i'm not yelling at this point just to be clear, i just want to sink in the point that most people don't have great gaming computers because the majority of the pc market get their computers from junk vendors like dell and hp)
take business class or just watch some intro to business on youtube.. you all still pay for these games, they aren't going to invest a million hours of man power into all this when they dont need to.
