GTX 560ti Twin Frozr II Heat problems.

So I've decided to replace my GTX 260 with a GTX 560ti Twin Frozr II. I think there might be something wrong with the card? In all the reviews the delta temperatures at idle were around 10C which is quite impressive. My room temperature is 21C and the card sits at around 45C idle. My GTX 260 with a standard nvidia card heatsink ran cooler than that. I played BF3 on medium settings for about 20 minutes and reached 83C... at fan speed 50%. What the hell? All the reviews people were getting max of like 60-65C at max load not medium setting BF3 at 1680x1050. My GTX 260 ran BF3 on same settings at around 62-65C at the same fan speed. I got this card because of the different fan design which is suppose to be more efficient than a standard GTX 560ti. I've tried installing it top and bottom of my motherboard to see if there were any airflow obstructions but the temperatures remained the same.

Can anyone enlighten me on this situation?

P.S. Just ran Furmark for less than 30 seconds and it spiked to 96C I closed it before it went any further. This was at 100% fan speed.

Have you checked if the heat sink is making a strong contact with the chip? Make sure those screws are nice and tight.

I shouldn't be tightening any screws on a brand new card. But they are as tight as they can be. There doesn't seem to be any obvious physical faults with it, not that I can see anyway without voiding my warranty.

MSI are putting a TON of thermalpaste on some of their cards.
My card:

Thats too much and it was the same, 86°C in a few minutes in crysis. Maybe it's the thermalpaste in your case... Remove the heatsink, remove the stock thermalpaste and clean with alcohol for best performance, then apply your thermalpaste of choice, best in my option are MX-4 or NT-H1. And not too much of it... just an average size dot...

^ This but if you aren't ready to take the card apart the only other solution would be to RMA it.

Naah! He will need to wait and there is no guarantee it's gonna be better! Do it yourself... 4 screws and that's it.

Don't get me wrong I agree that DIY is the way to go. Not sure how he feels about taking his new card apart though.
Thats crazy how much thermal paste was put on your 560.

Unless you're doing a hardware mod, you're not going to void the warranty. You can take the heatsink off, no problem.

^So very true! But be careful taking it off, cuz the paste is very sticky and you have to wiggle it a little to take it off.
